Yes, I think the Bengali pronounciation would be "Aasha-bori". I named it after the raag. I intend to name all my speakers after raags.... Asawari (is it Asabari?)
Yes, I intend to build a TM bookshelf using the Asawari's midbass driver and an Indian Peerless tweeter. This will generate slightly weaker deep bass, and may not have the punch for rock music, but may be perfect for things like Indian vocal music, Hindustani classical, old Hindi film songs, etc.Hope you will have a bookshelf design which novices like us can copy and build
Hi Tarun
Today for the first time i ventured out for building my HT. well here is the story, i took ur schematic to the person who used to do winding of my transformers 4 years back. He now makes parts for Beetel Company and Bharat Telecom. Also took some pictures of the coils. He knew what that was all about and what i wanted. He told me that they will be ready in a weeks time and will use 17 gauge wire (imported) and also he told me that the capacitors that are being used he can also arrange them for me on his next trip to Delhi. That was quite a relief to me.
Next i went to the wood and veneer selling market. To my astonishment the veneer was very expensive started from 30 rs square foot to 210 rs square foot. One dealer of the veneer told me that cheap veneer will get boils (fool jayegi) cus we have very different climate that those in the west and he advised me to look for good sun mica sheets that a company called Durion is selling. The sun mica had shades just like the finished veneer. After that i saw some good MDF boards ranged 45rs sq/ft 3/4th of an inch and 30 for 1/2 inch (imported). Now i have to decide to go for sunmica or for the veneer of course veneer will be so much costly after all the labour cost and the material cost added at the end of the finish product. From tomorrow i will be looking for some good carpenter who will do a good finished job for my speakers, as i want all the joints of veneer or sun mica used to be of quality finish.
Hope every thing comes up good but my only worry is will i be able to make a good Xo.

Another excellent all out attempt by using locally available components .

Hi Som
I think we are both like in the same boat. I think neither you nor i know what these frequencies and values and parts do in the Xo or what is the measurement of the driver and so on the measurements cus we both are not from a science background i mean engeenering. although i am from me medical science back ground but physics and maths were the subjects i didnt like that much. The numbers had a headache in me when i used to do maths and numericals LOL.
I hope that things work out for me and you if u are into something
Looks some one else did a great job like Tarun. I am reading the site u gave me. BTW thanks for the link provided

That sure is a monster amplifier😱 my opinion is thats a nice work but the person has not given much of attention to the finishing of the product. One can see the nails on the boxes and many other things that if given some more attention would have been a good looking amp and also the sub speakers.
IMHO, it's a collection of very modest-powered amps (the P3A). There's no monster amplification there, other than the physical size and weight. 🙂 The P3A is a lovely little amp for beginners wanting to build their first discrete amp, and it sounds good enough for many people to keep it permanently in their main system. I've built it, and I liked both Rod Elliott's support and guidance as well as the amp's sound.kamal6767 said:That sure is a monster amplifier...
Attached is a picture of my sub woofer yet to be completed. I started it in 2006 it is a kenwood twister 12 in sub in a MDF box . I went on line and found a software to calculate the size of the speaker box according to the speaker size and lts one wanted . hope I finish it soon

This is a image of a small speaker set that I bought from my local market using it as surround the speakers are 8 inch tall and 9 inch in depth. They use a 3.5 inch driver and a tweeter. Opened it up and saw no XO just a capacitor attached to the tweeter. Look nice they have a aluminum face place and nice finish

I have no idea what Peerless India is making. But if you walk around in L.Road, you'll get other options for 5" or 5.25" drivers, including a coated-paper-cone driver from Peerless India.kamal6767 said:Tarun is peerless india making 5 1/2 inch kevlar drivers? the 6.5 kevlar for my center channel will be too big.
Can you post some pictures of Peerless india's drivers . I have never seen then apart from Tarunda's Asawari .Does the Kevlar driver have a vented spider ?

Hi Soma
i also want some close pictures of those peerless indian kevlars. visited the peerless india site, they are not on that site and it also does not take to the older site although it has a point to redirect to the older site of theirs.
This speaker building is realy a tough job, gosh. all this confusion gets on adding day by day. Lol never knew speaker designing was so much complicated. It needs so much patience, knowledge, time and yes big mullas!

Hi Tarun
Is the Peerless India Kevlar driver No. M13KH that you used in your Asawaris?
Tarun i want to build a pair of bookshelves with the same driver and tweeter and XO you used in the Asawaris. What will be the Ideal size for the bookshelf if the same driver tweeter and Xo is used?

Don't remember the part number. Where did you get the name "M13KH" from? In any case, anything with "13" in it looks incorrect. Usually, these numbers indicate the diameter of the driver in cm or mm. Something with "13" in it will be a 13-cm diameter driver. What you should be looking for is something with "17" or "18" in it.kamal6767 said:Is the Peerless India Kevlar driver No. M13KH that you used in your Asawaris?
Download Unibox (it's an Excel spreadsheet) and do the box modelling. I think roughly 20L enclosure per midbass driver, vented, should give you a usable bookshelf. For a TM, 20L should be about it.Tarun i want to build a pair of bookshelves with the same driver and tweeter and XO you used in the Asawaris. Yes, I visited their URL and found a single-page Website. Lots of hints of content, but none of the content is there.
