From the comments in the various reviews, it looks like this circuit is diode voltage-doubler directly rectifying the 120/240 VAC to 305-320 VDC... See comments in these reviews:

I've got a couple pair of the EVS 1000ASP-based and think that'd make a nice, not-to-hard to implement upgrade (as long as one was careful while working on it!).

P.S. BTW, at 300-320VDC, those two added caps don't have to be very large in value to provide the '400+ joules' of added energy storage! Something just under 100uf total should do it.
According to these articles, if you connect the output of a PFC to AC input of ASP1000, would it work?
The PFC output 385VDC, does not affect the input circuit (oscillator) of ASP1000?

I recently installed two monophonic units,

THe input is way to close to the output terminals. Take care can run into oscillation.

And to close to the toroid !😱 This is a very very bad layout. Many amps have gone up in smoke because offf this kind of layout ! 🙁🙁🙁

can anyone advise as to whether an input buffer affects sound quality regardless of the pre-amp used or is it just pre-amps such as tube or passive types.thanks

That 385v seems to work based on the pictures of the Rowland amps.
The Bel Canto board likely produces closer to 320v based on this article and circuit from Wikipedia:

Anyone gotten any more info on the Bel Canto board other than what the Wikipedia article implies. I did get these pictures from someone who had one of the amps, but no more info than that. Still looks like a pretty simple mod, but I'd really like to get my hands on one or get info from someone who has before risking my modules.

1. An input filter cap (black .33uf 250v x2 cap)
2. A fuse
3. 4 rectifier diodes for a full-wave bridge
4. A couple of high-voltage (200v?) electrolytics
5. A jumper plug to set 120v or 240v operation (voltage doubler or regular rectifier)
6. A couple of bleeder resistors
7. An output bypass cap
But there are a couple of small components between the rectifiers and the first cap that I can't make out... one looks like a surge protector, but funny to see it so far downstream. The other I can't make out at all.
Can anyone get to to one of these and get more intel?
