You can only place so many drivers in a sphere as too many holes reduce structural integrity and also the strength advantages that reduce resonance. If all these smaller drivers are "full range" then you've got mids and highs shooting around all over the place making the speaker more dependent on room acoustics.
Reasonable points.
Now when you use one driver you introduce asymmetry into the equation.

This amount of strength only applies if the modes are concentric.especially with the singular strength of the enclosure

...is about 1,125 Hz. This won't cause the sphere to resonate especially with the singular strength of the enclosure, let alone any damping used.
It won’t move the sphere so it all comes out thru the driver cone. 1k cab be fairly easily damped.

Reading the title of this thread I imagined a sphere with many loudspeakers all around its surface. An omnidirectional speaker.
Done in the past with a dodecahedron, also doable with an iscoahedraon.

The strength of the enclosure relates to the shape - a sphere with one speaker is still stronger than a box.
Perhaps it is.
If you were to attempt to break, say, a bamboo hula hoop (staying on the plane of the circle), how would you do it? The distribution of forces applied by this mode would be similar to putting your hands out wide and bringing it down over your knee.

I made these 25 years ago:

These have high WAF here because of using the bamboo look and the sound (very little to no diffraction and wide soundstage). Unfortunately most of the time they are playing merely the TV (although once in while a good bass track on a show). The other second pic is the newer more "industrial" version that goes with a separate sub. Similar to Envy 2 in design. I took the liberty to lighten the Sputnik pic to show the driver, what was used? The design is very cool! Looks like the Cabasse La Sphere in size.
A 2-dimensional hula hoop is not a 3D sphere any more than a thin stick acts like a box, even though a box can be cut into sticks 🙂

The ones shown look like they are adjustable? So could allow on axis and off axis in the mid and highs, plus vertically aligned or mirror pairs? Cool concept IMO. One thing a sphere can do is rotate in its placement without looking cockeyed relative to a nearby wall.
Piling little lumps on top of each other
Hard to get the asthetics to work, and all of these dramatically increase centre-to-centre’s which is, AFAIC, is a fatal flaw.
A coax or a FR in a solitary sphere, yes.
If you are repurposing something the shape is nice (ie IKEA bowls), but something closer to the B&W/Eclipse kind of thing would be a better target if you are fabricating.

dave
The problem with a FR is that there is really no such thing - something is sacrificed either on the low or high end, or both. A co-ax can do the trick though. Cabasse actually uses a (expensive) tri-ax for its flagship speaker.
Some FRs do really well if in the right box. Unless huge a sphere will limit the bass.
And Toole/Gedded says you should be using sats that reach 80 hz (easy) and multiple mini subs.
As you go down in frequency, the utility of the sphere starts to disappear, ao if you need more than 1-way a midTweeter in a spherical/teardrop with a more conventionally shaped woofer box supporting it.
A coax almost for sureneeds a DSP XO to get the time and phase issues right thru that region. If you lose phase performance, it will lose the “magic” that a good FR can bring.

You can certainly make a spherical sub. In my 4-sphere system, the bottom is a 6.5" down-firing sub.
this is a cool illistration. I wonder if in a sphere that’s driven from the center and given a ducting system after that point(downstream of the driver which is ~twice as long as the distance to the boundary of the sphere and its affective 1/4 length as a ‘resonator’ won’t act like a transmission line does when it’s driver is moved down to location of the pressure node for the 3x (1/4) harmonic used for tuning. These pressure distributions would put paid to the hope of engaging only its strongest containment mode.
That number and location in the total pipe length/ Fb chosen is x 0.349065... which is based on ‘pi’ as pi divided by nine. Its also 20° (or 0.349206349)) in radians using 22/7, as 3.142857142 / 9 ).
example:
300cm(28.8hz)
X0.349065
Is 104.72 cm(The equivalent of 60 in degrees to radians
and 104.72×3 is pi
The 195128 remaining in the 300 when divided into 104.72 is 2.864 while 195.28/10472 is 1.864. And 100 cm is the quarterwave resonator length for 86.4 hz?
The golden ratio of 0.618 when 1/x is 1.618 and when ^2 is 2.618.
1.864… Is the speed of light in miles per second and 86400 Seconds in 24 hours and the diameter of the sun amongst quite a few other extremely important things.
Then, 300 /16.09344 is also 1.864… and that’s the meter to mile conversion factor, And 86.4 Hz is 100 cm and 100 Hz is 86.4 cm.
To add even more to it already weird scenario the numbers and the connection between the speed of light meter and the second and ultimately resonators and 1/4 wave functions, That number 0349 as pie divided by six iThat number 0349 as pie divided by 9 just to pay divided by six if using both sides of the con to create the same solution in the void at the top of bandwidth.
Instead of 034902 aa 104.72 in 300, It’s 05236 from both far ends which would be 30cm 05236 radian from both far ends which would be 30cm off 0cm and 330 from 360as a parallel pipe that’s 360 cm long and has 300 between the drivers this time. This kind of thing works not only in transmission line speakers it is exceptionally good for the full range 4th order version, but also in antenna theory????
if you stand in the middle of a circular concrete fence or wall and speak while people are all gathered around at that wall is a weird anomaly that happens due to the pressure max that forms at the wall and then return at your location I’m assuming this is what happens inside they also driver transmission linePath and continues go to exit in about twice that distance as well or equivalent of that bounces on speed and time of pressure wavPath and continues go to exit in about same as what that hypothetical balance length would’ve been. I don’t recall the specifics but I believe that is in a park in Omaha Nebraska as an actual acoustical phenomenon for people tI don’t recall the specifics but I believe that is in a park in Omaha Nebraska has an actual acoustical phenomenon public/state park?
I don’t think that there’s many drivers that would utilize a sphere at quarter wave length and subwoofer sized version of that that would be all the way out to us fear and that huge volume
okay, What if you then create what is the same in the transmission line by making that location actually fourwhat if you then create what is the same in the transmission line by making that location 0.349 From the endpoint of what ultimately ends up being his vented enclosure using this steer volume as the initial statemenFrom the endpoint of what ultimately ends up being his vented enclosure using this steer volume as the initial 104.72cm out of 300 total? If any concern, any internal "standing" sound waves in the sphere can easily be mitigated by introducing a smaller ball in the center, and this can even be slightly offset. For a 12" internal diameter of a sphere, the frequency at that length is about 1,125 Hz. This won't cause the sphere to resonate especially with the singular strength of the enclosure, let alone any damping used. The ellipse shape is hard to manufacture and also the front end of it is pretty spherical anyway.
300x0.349065 is 104.719…
and 104.719x3 is pi.
and… We’re working some Funky higher order math which can be based on radius of circle’s apple pie divided by six is 536Funky higher order math which can be based on radius of circle’s..
Pi divided by 3 is 104.72
Pi /6 is 52.36
Pi/9 is 34.906
these are some of the most useful numbers in all of enclosures when trying to stay in fees and work with a 1/4 wave tuning Fb.
300 cm as 28.8 Hz 200 cm as 432 and 100 cm is 864 and 50 cm is 1728.
in the Pythagorean theorem ‘C’ squared is 1728 or sqrt 3, Making 864 square root of 4 to making 864 square root of 3/4 and ‘B’ And at then ‘A’ Is the location based on what half the speed of light as 149-644is the location based on what half the speed of light as 1496.492, which is the square root of 2.25 (1.5, 0.75 and 3 On a 30 6090 tri which is an isosceles triangle with all sides as 1728 in a hexagon which has six of them in 360°.
05236 is pi divided by six or 30° it’s also the swing of a 1 Meter pendulum (864 hz) in one second. As well as 86 400 is the amount of seconds in 24 hours and 24 hours is 360 cm.
all of these things are only as described if the speed of sound is 80÷2.54 as 1133.8582677 seconds which is 345.6 m/s but all of these things accumulate to a unification of numbers and all of the stuff that is cross singing dimensions or you had no lights sound the speed of light and the circle and the sphere and the rectangle because:
Hey sphere with a radius of .5 has a volume of 05236 where is fear the radius of one is it volume of 4.188.
if you put a spear with diameter of one into a cube that light weight and height is one it’s a space is exactly 52.36% to 100 of the cube.

if you make a rectangle two of those cubes that the sphere fit in Then you have 30° in and 60° long side or 0.5236 and 10472 making a perimeter of the rectangle as pi.
If you base your enclosure and 80 cm increments And Do you use for fall parallel three to one or rearrange that to a series with an asset driver location or even attempt type version where the driver is sitting right at the velocity Max is the end of the front output quarer Wave path get this huge boost of heavy but spread out across the bed with Result on an otherwise plain Jane TL that’s extraordinary it also driven from the right location as 112 overall but at each point as 3270 would bResult on an otherwise plain Jane TL that’s extraordinary it also driven from the right location as 112 overall but at each point as 30 /270 Would be in 360 you have aligned that perfectly and starting at 43would be in 360 you have aligned that perfectly and starting at 432 onward at 864 and 1728 etc. all those frequencies are completely cancel node…
The volume of a sphere with radius is .5 is equivalent to the speed of light as an angle. This is for the represented in the details of four sided pyramid and a whole bunch of information in that regards is actually in the architecture and the rectangle I described is on the inside but it adds another layer to all of that by being slightly taller than it is around the vaccinations which is absolutely ingenious because of what that then allow it to describe.
All of the hypotenuse from corner to corner as long points are yielding another set of numbers all of which are for obvious reasons critical in acoustics anything that isolates or has to S number three or spinning around with an odd harmonic? so many things trapped And the details of gas points usually rounded up or conversion factors that we don’t even look at it take for granted our numbers that would hint at shortcuts in math or connections to things that will provide a working and beneficial version of something the more we look..And the details of gas points usually rounded up or conversion factors that we don’t even look at it take for granted our numbers that would hint at shortcuts in math or connections to things that will provide a working and beneficial version of something the more we look.
math and science wasn’t designed to make a smart we designed to make us hold a job and support a governing body or church.. it’s weird how the numbers have so much more information in them where no one mentions to look.
If we based everything and retired number system on circles alone or just went with the assumption that they already were I think all of these interesting **** relations would be much easier to sort through then it is to have to bust out the engine emoji and higher orders and multiple plots functions in calculus etc. etc.

Something like the Doppler effect except red shift in light has the same numbers and functions as it doesn’t sound as soon as you break the units apart and get them back to the same reference values. huge amount of things are trapped in the fact that we’re calibrating the speed of sound to whatever temperature it is and not just generically representing it as 345.6 beforehand so that number to recognize what they are related directly to. Because then it connects to all the numbers that are already in the way function for other things as well.
Whatever the speed of sound is when you’re building your speaker is going to be there regardless where the speed of sound was given an actual math concepts that was relative to 360° and the meter and pie and that number is 3451Whatever the speed of sound is when you’re building your speaker is going to be there regardless where the speed of sound was given an actual math concepts that was relative to 360° and the meter and pie and that number is 3456, But those numbers are all related to these other numbers in parts of a circle and spheres… Pythago theorem etc. etc. and more! All the frequencies at three for five or six plain and simple whole numbers and they’re all equivalence of time on earth as a ratio 24 hours 6400 seconds up or down divided 0 1/2 or double it it’s quick and simple and two other things otherwise never considered including Shortcuts a mass to understand how things work in higher orders or higher dimensions or kissing boys on Spheres beyond 3-D
The ratio of violence fear 8 to 1 ratio of radius diameter of the circle circumference not the same and the inverse square law to sound in both directions is the same as Radiation waves except for one more element you’re not just colliding into shooting kinetic they have a charged particle interactions if they’re not neutrons(fission) . What did numbers in sound response of speakers that stand out as a peek or trough using quarter wave and horror response to see the details do you notice to 3What did numbers in sound response of speakers that stand out as a peek or trough using quarter wave and horror response to see the details do you notice 235 because Mars and a frequency and the atomic mass units of the end of everything before the meteor. belt
And if you get real creative and started placing things on another set of numbers after the fact you notice the 96 to 1 ratio between earth and Saturn and have a super just slightly out of 48 to one oddly but then Uranus’s right back in the swing of things and you have another video about a drunk after the area of Neptune and all the proportionally the same. If you use that value as Nearfield Farfield split another can of worms was opened up….???
All the numbers from 09375 – through and through all the hours in the number of seconds with starting with the 86400 at 24 in your direction as well.
Is the connection between those that starts a chain reaction that you find in the meter to mile between the offset driver entry and the total length of the pipe as 300 cm would be 104.72 and 195.28 would remain.
104.72÷300-3490666
195.28 /104.72 is 1.864782Diameter of the sun, not missing a single digit.
at 864 Hz is 100 cm The pendulum swing length and 39.37” Plus the decimal points that are missing that are extremely important because they are doubling over and over again this number 3937” The higher order funky showing up in the square centimeters conversion to an inch versus the square centimeterThe higher order funky showing up in the square centimeters conversion to an inch versus the inch cm as well and all of these frequencies put together the Pythagorean theorem spell out the location of the scariest things that are landmarks in solar system and more.
So why is it that the rectangle can be the best resonator but the spear is the best anti-resonator?? Or candies offset stubs do the same thing in a transmission line type of arrangement?
I didn’thace the right video but a couple of this guys videos show the shapes but then how they line up perfectly to create a flat wave front and then collide as a complete cancellation you’re about and returned from the sides
