A curve is inherently stronger than a flat sheet, but still curves have resonances and need to be braced. So there is an improvement but not as much as claimed.
For a woofer, this cavity is just an additional acoustic mass. Nothing more. Coloration? Not really, nothing you can't handle with the crossover.
The flowing noises from the sharp edges may be more crucial, but I don't think you'll ever hear them with real music program.
That's right, though.
Other energy could excite the cavity, including woofer distortion, etc. Better to just do it carefully for all drivers.
Hi Ohmholt there have been commercial and diy designs with "pipes". The Rogers JR149 was like a LS3/5a in an Aluminum cylinder. It was quite successful and followed up with a JR150 which was bigger and had two Kef B110 drivers. I have seen VERY heavy concrete pipes over a metre high with 8" drivers mounted in the top with diffusers above them. All good until you have children and the safety issues of concrete falling on them becomes a problem.
I recall Barlow from Goodmans saying that according to his research on colouration and wall damping that theoretically a thick cardboard cylinder should have low colouration.

Infinite thin shell cylinders do have an advantage but in real life, well not really.
Maybe if you use large plastic pipes, this is the closest you can get from the ideal.
anything made of several parts will not yield any benefit.
For subwoofer you need a cabinet as stiff as you can make it ( the opposite drivers is very good also).
