How better is a Turntable compared to a CD?

Who has heard the top of the state DACs from recent years?
it seems that to have a real answer to the OP question, one has to have heard top of the line vinyl rig and DAC and then compare. Is there anyone in here that have heard both?

From what I gathered from my long research to the topic, some new DAC available today is said to be equivalent to vinyls. From users that went from 30k vinyl rigs to DACS, I guess there must be a good reason.

New dl103 cost me $194. Shibata with boron cantilever fit would cost me $234,-

New body wil cost me $15,- so total maximum can become $443,-

That is not $1300,00 or $1500,- what the sound smith asks.

Look carefully ,

it's 143.00 for dl103
it's 440 for soundsmith upgrade
If you get the platinum it's 1300.00

you can do all mods for 550.00 with cartridge , the 1300.00 upgrade does make it a serious contender ..

If updating your cartridge .. here ..

I have, every month, the dCS still sound the best so far ...

I do not know where the stylus comes from, a german shop does re-tipping of DL103. You can choose eliptical 90,00 euro, or an boron cantilever and shibata tip 174,00 euro.

Hmm, have you heard one before ...?

i like simplicity in flac>pc>dac>amp>speakers ..and i enjojed listening to behringer uca202 ,creative xfi usb ,oyaide fiio from xfis optical , and schiit modi...simplest behringer best one for everyday use ...altough i start to like modi more more i listen to it but thats maybe a placebo(or maybe pirated 24/96 music i downloaded recently 🙂 )

Mass marketed 44.1kHz 16bits DACs have existed for decades that blow vinyl out of the water.

Best picture I have found yet, looks like the same thing I have seen on a few of my new records.

Turntable Forum • Have To Clean Brand New Lp, Possible Big Problem.

More delusional people here to dismiss.

Turntable Forum • Residue on new vinyl

I know the people who see no evil, speak no evil etc will simply ignore these links and say we are all delusional. But I posted them anyway in case someone on here comes across this issue and is actually interested enough to check it out.

This is probably a complete waste of time, it's going round and round like a record so i'll make this my last post on this issue.

More than happy to have checked these links.

One link looks like bad packaging practices.

The other looks like bad pressing practices that could go back to production of stamper.

Both are indicators of weak market incapable of supporting manufacturing scale of economy allowing proper production with quality control.

Really have nothing against vinyl, I've enjoyed plenty. Good records in good condition played on totally acceptable systems, rendering countless hours of listening pleasure. With this is learned tolerance to surface noise, ticks, pops that are inevitable. One day a track is silky smooth, next play a defect is heard.

But calling vinyl systems better than CD or 44.1kHz 16 digital or other digital systems is delusional.

One more time should make it real .... :whip:

what about master records ... what are they using for masters ?

edit : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_recording

quote: ...If the material is destined for vinyl release, additional processing, such as dynamic range reduction or frequency dependent stereo–to–mono fold-down and equalization, may be applied to compensate for the limitations of that medium. Finally, for compact disc release, Start of Track, End of Track, and Indexes are defined for disc navigation. Subsequently, it is rendered either to a physical medium, such as a CD-R or DVD-R, or to computer files, such as a Disc Description Protocol (DDP) file set or an ISO file. The.............

I dug out Pink Floyd's Echoes (4 lp vinyl box set) earlier and listened all the way through, it sounds totally stunning. The original recordings were analogue but this box set is the best remaster I have heard to date.

Info on the set -

They used custom built tape machines by The Mastering Lab & Tim de Paravicini.
Custom valve EQ by Esoteric Audio Research.
dB Technologies 24 bit ADC's feed the SADiE workstation (whatever that is).
Monitoring DAC's by dCS.

It aint what you do it's the way that you do it 😉
