But how am I supposed to know?
The title of the chart is "Active and Equaliser Filter Gain (dB)".
why does your image have a Q-factor of 3.28?
It was an attempt to match the gain profile I gave. The value actually used originally was 3.41.
If you don't wish to tweak the profile with equalisation then the best result using just the 2nd order active filter becomes:
Hi David,I have Windows 7.
I've seen a couple of times mention that you use Windows 7.
Is that just for Hornresp development in an isolated (offline as it were) environment?
Sorry for the non-Hornresp content (although I did manage to mention Hornresp 3 times in this post🙂)

No, I only have the one computer and it is used for everything.
Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020, meaning they no longer provide security updates or fixes, except for those who subscribed to Extended Security Updates (ESU). The ESU coverage ended on January 10, 2023.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
- End of Main Support:
Microsoft stopped providing free security updates, technical assistance, and software updates for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020.
- Extended Security Updates (ESU):
Organizations could purchase ESU to continue receiving security updates for an additional period, but this coverage ended on January 10, 2023.
What it means for users:
After the end of support, computers running Windows 7 are at a higher risk of security vulnerabilities and malware infections, as they no longer receive critical security patches. - Microsoft's Recommendation:
Microsoft recommends that users upgrade to a supported version of Windows, such as Windows 10 or Windows 11, to ensure continued security and support.
Windows 10 End of Support:
Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025.
STRONGLY urge you to move to Windows 11 and run Windows 7 in a VM (virtual machine) if you need it.
Or leave your current computer untouched and OFFLINE, and buy an entry level laptop for everything else.
I was wondering how David defends against the dark arts, or is the risk totally overblown?
Several I know are planning on staying on W10 and be damned, as they consider their risk miniscule.

I use the VM approach 🙂[snip] I STRONGLY urge you to move to Windows 11 and run Windows 7 in a VM (virtual machine) if you need it.

I'm tasting Linux Mint & Cinnamon at the moment for most things.
Still require Windows for Najda In Control.exe and of course Hornresp 😉

I wish that I could find a VM that would allow USB interface. I have a Windoz 7 laptop that I keep to run my Speaker Tester Pro only. I have never been able to get that software running in Windoz 10 because the ADC uses and unsigned driver from Analog Devices. That driver will never be "signed".
Never thought about it until now, but how comprehensive is Wine on LINUX now? That might be the next step for me if I can find a way to work it out.
I really don't like the personal data mining that Microsoft has installed into Windoz 10 and 11.
I could run the Najda in control SW on Wine but there is no USB support. The programme is cutoff from the HW world.how comprehensive is Wine on LINUX now?
Apparently it will never happen. To implement the drivers requires implementation of much of the Windows core someone once wrote.
No one has that inclination it seems.
Apparently REW will run on Linux (there's a Linux compatible version).
I guess Hornresp would run on Wine okay - there's no USB driver requirement. Not sure how export of files etc would work?
I must try it this evening..

I suggest anyone that is planning to migrate to linux to try following steps:
1) Stay with windows for some additional time and initiate migrating APP first. Examples: Replace Microsoft Office with Libre Office, there are some APP that can work on Linux on top of wine flawlessly, and there are some that it's impossible. There some alternative APP that delivery equivalent performances.
2) Try to use Linux for some time inside VM on windows (there are many free options of VM softwares).
3) Choosing Linux distribution is overwhelming, to avoid issues and data lost I strong recommend you to choose a distribution that uses automatic snapshot and rollback witch requires the root filesystem to be set as BTRFS. Manjaro is more mature in my opinion with this feature working out of the box, soon OpenSUSE Slowroll will be available. Setting this feature manually in any distro can be a headache, using distro without this function can be risky, so, go safer path. Buy I second hard disk/NVME/SSD for personal data. Bazzite could be 3rd option, and Steam Deck OS when public available for Desktops.
4) Start your journey with KDE Plasma as your desktop environment, it's very modern and the default configuration and workflow is closer to windows.
I use Hornresp the major part of the time without issues, sometimes wine breaks and Hornresp don't work properly, but the issues is fixes very fast, and it's just about to update the system, don't need to do any manual intervention.
Note.: Arch, OpenSUSE Tumbleweed and Fedora, are more modern distributions and bleeding edges, not recommends for new users, but try to find a distribution beginner friendly derivative from those and you will be in a good spot. If you don't think Linux distro is overwhelming take a look in the picture below:

Didn't know anyone was maintaining that distro timeline anymore--thanks 🙂
HR runs mostly fine in Wine and has for too long to remember (20+?) but at least close to 15.
IMO, those previous linux disributions are large and running them inside a virtual machine may drive performance into the (intolerable) mud. If the linux-inside-VM approach is desired, there are much more lightweight & reasonably-friendly distributions capable of running Wine to test your compatibility/programs or eval HR (maybe that's another thread for the software forum or somewhere else). For some years, I'm the other way and keep a minimal XP VM in Virtualbox (which screams, btw) to occasionally run Martin's old mcad sheets, etc. One checkbox in Virtualbox and external network interfaces are "off" and remain so. FWIW.

I have run LINUX before. As recommended by Marcelo I did run Windoz concurrently. I tried Ubuntu as it was a name I recognized. Actually my first LINUX attempts are over 10 years ago. I'm thinking that there have been some improvements. These other distributions will get a good look. Thanks for the advice guys. I'll take it easy and try again.
You can run W7 in a VM under Linux, and use USB passthrough to give the device directly to windows.
This sounds great - I have a feeling it could be "The long and winding road" - though as long as it leads to Najda, Hornresp and others door . 🙂You can run W7 in a VM under Linux, and use USB passthrough to give the device directly to windows.
Most hypervisors / virtualization solutions are able to passthrough USB Ports nowadays. vmware workstation / player on windows is able to do so for years now. Oracles virtual PC can do it. And if you are on a linux server / hypervisor (proxmox, unraid, etc..), it can be done, too.I wish that I could find a VM that would allow USB interface. If you are on windows, probably the easiest way is to install vmware player / workstation, which is free nowadays. you might have to get a vmware account, but if you look around the interned, you might find a download file on the usual download-sites... If you need help, PM me....
Wine is not a virtual environemt - so it does not emulate a whole virtual machine where you install windows with your CD/USB Installer, but rather provides the windows API and calls inside Linux or MacOS, so you can run windows applications directly in windows or MacOS. It works for a lot of software nowadays, but since its not a complete PC, USB passhtrough with tricky unsigned drivers are very complicated to get running.
hornresp is so "simple", it will run in a wine environemt, though.
hornresp can even run on reactos - which is a free rebuild of windows 🙂 I´ve done it years ago - reactos is so small, you can even run it on a modern mobile phone in a virtual environemt and get hornresp "native" on your phone 🙂
I started to set up winlator on my Samsuck tablet. but couldn't find a good tutorial to go any farther. Any suggestions?
Installed, Where do I set up a file to hold my Windoz apps that I want to run? Hornresp is one, and I have a few more that would be handy. I have a full keyboard for the 12 inch version. This tablet is actually faster than my HP Envy laptop with it's demon possesed keyboard. Types what it wants, when it wants 😈where are you stuck ?
look into the settings when your "win container" is stopped or not running. You will find a file location where your Drives are living inside your tablet ("data/home/drives or something like that").. You can simply move files to that location with whatever means you use to transfer files between your tablet and a PC (I use totalcommander and myphoneexplorer on android for tasks like that).
After that, you have your setup.exe inside your "windows" on the tablet, simply install it like you would on real windows..
