Art my dear Friend. The SI driver I'm looking at is 4 ohm per voice coil. I think you may be looking at the 2 dude, I suppose I can drive one voice coil at 4 ohms, or wire them together series for 8 ohm. I was told I do not DARE bridge this amp less than 8. I assume the load will most likely be less than 8, so I don't know.

Some punk told me to go ahead and try it, so I could see what aluminum, copper, plastic and cap screws look like embedded in the wall. Learn by doing, I guess.

I think a properly tuned 505 can stand it's ground. We had eight 505's across stage front with the EV W horns (4 per side). This was not good, the ambulance came. Others crapped there pants, some threw up. All in a day's work.

All driven with Phase Linear. Wish we had JBL's! Imagine eight JBL scoops across near field.

Any Hoo, thanks Art. Nice to see some people can see through the mud.

Al,

I did not see a dual voice coil SI driver, just one with a single 3.5 ohm single coil. If you have a dual voice coil driver, you don't need to bridge your PL anyway, it would have the same output two channels in to two four 4 ohms coils as both channels bridged in to 8 ohms.

Do you have a link for a dual voice coil SI 18"?

I do, Art, It's kind of private. The driver is spanked by the receipeant of the third world manufactcturer he chooses to deal with. At least he has the balls. I would bow out. If you would like to speak with this guy in person, maby I can arrange something, sure would like to be there and hear THAT conversation.
The guy is in your neighborhood. I am not.

Al,

No idea what you are trying to say.
I'm interested in the TS specs, but if they are "private" and the driver won't be produced any more, not interested.
Have you actually measured the voice coil(s) impedance?

I know. I stumble and bumble. I was hoping I could take an affordable 18 and bolt it into a small box. Drive it hard 40~160Hz. Who knew 2 octaves would be so expensive?

I've been live on stage from cozy rock bars to arenas. I've had supper with Ozzy while Lemmy was screwing around. Metallica lived with me for a month. Anthrax came to my wedding reception. I drank a six pack with Alex VanHalen. All this is credible and WELL documented.

Now, I'm just an old man trying to hang on. Don't have much money left. I have some wood working tools and some experience left in my hands and brain. I like camp fires and looking at the stars.

I have some old 1980's Hi-Fi gear I would like to bring back to life. Some I figured out and repaired. Others, like the Phase Linear 700 Series II have me researching.

This is my nut, compressed into a single post.

Thanks, Al.

Al,

I had not expanded the picture of the 40Hz HP (bass robbing) filter in post #134 and thought it was a speaker box, thinking you had purchased the SI 18" speaker you had been talking about along with the bridging device.

If you don't care about < 40 Hz response, just get a more normal PA 18". I hear Clair Brothers are selling off used EVX180B, one of those would go way louder with less power in your TL box.

Al,

Thinking about it, rather than going with a used (up) woofer, for use in the TL505 either of these Dayton 18" would be good, two of the cheaper ones would put out more level than the more expensive one.

One of the cheaper ones can put out almost what two of the EV18B from your glory days could.

I would rather find something from Eminence. I am impressed of their Lab12. My guess is that Dayton sells generic woofers with nothing special about them.

According to the TS parameters, the Dayton PA465S-8 in the last post are less generic, and more cost effective than the stock offerings from Eminence or the Italian drivers they resemble.

The OP did not want to spend what the Eminence 4018LF costs (on paper not as good a driver as PA465S-8) the I had previously suggested.

That said, I have used Eminence, but have not used Dayton yet.

I don't see what the problem is here. I have no money to invest. I have some power w/the PL700, I have the top end covered and enough out board gear to make it happen. My wish for the tingle may be outside my grasp. I'm a gopher. I am relentless and will keep on digging. I have plenty time on my hands. I have a number of stews simmering.

Feel free to to tell me where to go, and I'll be sure to let you know what it's like.

Thanks, Al.

Please

Allow me to front this. I am looking for the tingle. Call me a girl or whatever but you know what I am talking about. It may take a studio or habitat to replicate all the variables involved. I have considered a concrete bunker but the state of NY will not allow burial in there.

I'm not frantick yet, I am short of time they tell me. They had me dead two times on the table and told me to make some calls because I would not survive the night.

Now that I'm not dead today, I would like to experiance that tingle one more time. Just one more time so I can stand tall and proud on my way.
