Hi BrianGT,
Any estimate on the timeframe for this order? $70 is a good price I think.
I'm gonna stick to the ladder config, that's better. The assembly should not be a problem
for a true DIY'er with a hot soldering iron!
Greetz,
Ray.

I second that.
I think the extra cost and effort required to assemble the Elma ladder will be worth it in the end.

I don't have time to do this order, since I am still working on the LM3875 kits, and organizing the LM4780 and another unannounced project.
If someone else wants to do it, I can provide advice on how to organize it and handle payments/shipping.

Ray,
Elma USA (Fremont, CA) quoted me $95.95 a few months ago. They said they had plenty in stock. That's convenient for me since I'm in the Bay Area, but you might want to try a contact from Elma Europe. Go to www.elma.com and then click on Europe. You can find the contact info at the top under "Contact/Support".
No, the resistors are not included. I personally would want to souce my own... and this gives you the ability to make it any value you want.
Regards,
Bryan

If you get an order of 50 units, the price goes down to around $70.

Just talking from memory here, but a group order of resistor like
Dale whould prob be 1/4 the price of ordering them in a small lot.

Hm,
I contacted Elma sales in Germany and they redirected me back to their resellers here in Holland.
But they don't have the switches, only the housings and backplanes stuff, because they don't represent that line of products...grrr.
The switches are going to be too expensive here for the group order I'm afraid.
Ray.
I checked the quantity price on Vishay Dale metal film resistors, and I was wrong- even ordering 100 of a value only reduces the cost by less than half.
Hello All,
I heard back from Elma USA today. The price breakdown is as follows:
Quantity - Price
1 - $95.96
10 - $78.68
50 - $67.16
If I were to make the order, then the prices would go up to (i.e. CA sales tax):
10 - $85.17
50 - $72.70
Thus, it would be more beneficial to have someone outside CA make the order.
Maybe someone can check into resistors?
I suggest someone set up a Wiki and lets get an idea of exactly how much interest there is out there. As far as resistors go, I suggest making a limited list at the top of the Wiki (i.e. no resistors, 20K, 50K). If you do not, there is no way to order bulk. Further, it's more of a hassle for the person donating all of his/her time and initial outlay of money.

Bryan

Hi,
Is it not possible to use the existing Wiki, or would that be too old?

Ray,
The Wiki is 3 months old. This may not be outdated, but given the lack of interest since BrianGT announced he would not be able to take this on leads me to believe that those on the Wiki were not all that interested in the first place. Hopefully we can get another one going and everyone can prove me wrong. Besides, the effort to add your name to the new Wiki is minimal compared to that put out by the person taking this on. So why not? 🙂
Honestly, I would consider taking this on if it weren't for the sales tax issue. But I wouldn't do this without first seeing an updated Wiki. If it doesn't look like it's getting anywhere in 2 weeks or so, I will be placing an order of say 5, which I can get at the same price as if I purchased 10, and then selling them at cost here. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm eager to start building!!!
Regards,
Bryan
Count me in...
Hi Bryan,
Yes, I agree with you. It's been awfully quiet the last couple of months. I wouldn't mind to do the order also, but the price here is too high.
I would have to send a lot of switches to the US anyway since most people on the list live there, so it makes more sense to order in the US I think.
Well, if you would be so kind to order six of 'em when the time comes... I have a nice tube amplifier that's eager to accommodate one.
Because of the dollar/euro rate, $85 is still better then what I have to pay here in Holland, even with shipping costs added to that.
Greetings,
Ray.

Well, I'm only in need of one 4-pole switch, but I'm needing it within the next couple of weeks. Either I get to ride a group buy here, or I'm going to have to pay retail.

Hello All,
On Monday morning I will be placing an order with Elma for the 04A2R00. I should have them in my hands on Tuesday or Wednesday (i.e. no leadtime), and hopefully ready for shipment by the end of the week. I want to get started on my project, and others have said the same... so let's do it!!!
The tenative order number is 15. The tenative price will be $86 (not including Paypal credit card fees and shipping). If we get more than 25, it will drop another few dollars.
The way it will work is as follows.
General
I'm doing this to help others out and reduce the price to all. I'm probably going to lose money here, given the time, credit card interest, etc., so bear with me. Also, to those who do order, check out my feedback on EBay (bryman9). I'm upfront and honest in every auction I put up, and I'm treating this the same way. Read on.
Requests
Priority for any attenuators ordered will be determined from the posts on the forum, not i.e. PMs to me. Thus, it is basically first-to-post, first served. There are 2 exceptions: 1) any subsequent requests by the same person are treated as new requests (i.e. if you want another after they are all accounted for, tough luck - you get the number you originally quoted); and 2) I take priority over anyone (don't worry, I'm 99.99% sure I only want one). The following is a tenative list of initial requests:
bryman79 - 1
6H5C - 1
Praudio - 3
pkpickard - 1
rpafenberg - 2
BrianGT - ???
Variac - ???
Sometime this weekend I will update this list. Note that these "requests" do not bind you to purchase. Until Monday, they will seve as a substitute Wiki, and thereafter, will indicate priority for any left over. If payment is not posted or mailed within 10 days of a request on this forum, you will lose your spot on the list (see "payment" below for more info).
Payment
Through Paypal or by money order/cashiers check. Again, credit card fees add to the price. Shipping will be the actual shipping cost as estimated from the web. Payment must be received (Paypal) or shipped (CC/MO) within 10 days of your request or when I am able to ship these guys, whichever is later. Sorry, but I can't hang onto your part for months and continue to rack up interest.
Shipping - US
I will probably choose to ship USPS insured (or at least so that it gives me a tracking number to protect myself), unless I find that FedEx Ground is cheaper. I traditionally use FedEx since it automatically insures up to $100, is quick, and cheap. But for smaller items, USPS tends to be cheaper. We'll see.
Since these guys are cylindrical, I hopefully can find some lightweight plastic tubes that are somewhat rigid to put them in. I will then stick the tube in an envelope. This way they should have adequate protection from the less-than-friendly shipping services.
Shipping - Int'l
I've never shipping int'l, so I guess this will be on a case-by-case basis.
Resistors
I figure we can deal with this later. It's not like you would be ordering then from Elma anyway.
Regards,
Bryan

I'm only VERY interested in a resistor order.....
I guess to be up to 25k ohms if that is best for gainclones.
