Brian is there a big differance audibly with the basic and premium kits?

I haven't built a basic kit yet for comparison, and I doubt that I could tell a difference regardless with my current crappy pioneer speakers. However, I can tell you that my amp, built with the premium components effectively has no internally-generated noise. If I turn off everything in my room that makes any noise (computers and ceiling fans) and place my ear litterally against the very efficient speakers while plugging my other ear with my finger, I can hear some minor hissing if I listen really hard. Mostly, the noise is at higher frequencies, and I hear it through my tweeter. However, it has an eliptical "waveguide" on it, so It's sort of hard to say if some of this noise isn't sort of like holding a seashell to your ear. To put it simply, I have yet to hear a flourescent light quieter than the noise coming from my speakers. Naturally, your mileage may vary.

Just wanted to post my thanks for the boards, as well. They really remind me of the old days when Red PCB's were the rage for overclockers 😀 The quality of the PCBs is fantastic and I couldn't be happier with them.

If you offer them up again, I may have to stock up. Hopefully I'll be able to order a few more soon. That is, if the 4780 project doesn't consume me as well..

For what is worth, I think the biggest sonic difference comes from the BG caps and the riken resistor. But having said that, the Panasonics are really not that far behind. The basic kit should sound just fine. The noise level between the two is more a factor of construction and TF. The caps or resistors shouldn't add more to the noise, they only affect the clarity of the sound.

Enough already!!! 😀

Your killing those of us who are still waiting to order the Premium kit...

Got all my parts EXCEPT the amp!!

I can honestly say that the suspense is killing me.

I will see what I can do. I have gotten some parts for the premium kits and am waiting for the rest still. I might be able to put together a small batch of kits with the remaining parts from the last order. I will see what I have when I get home tonight. I probably only have enough parts for 10 premium kits, until the rest of the resistors arrive.

I have about 10 premium kits available now. The rest of the premium kits will take at least another week. I will sell these 10 kits first come, first serve. Drop me an e-mail with how many you want, and I will send you a URL to place an order.

The kits will include 620 ohm Riken resistors, and 19k Caddock resistors, instead of the previous 20k Caddock resistors. This makes a small change in the gain, changing it from 33 to 31.6. This should not make any sonic difference.

I will make another post when I am sold out.

I am now sold out of premium kits, and will post more information when I have the parts for more kits.

For the recent orders, all of the US ones are shipping out to today, and half of the international ones are shipping out. I still need to fill out the customs forms and address labels for the other half, but they should go out tomorrow. US orders should all have received a Delivery Confirmation number.

As for this group order, it seems to have been quite a success with several finished amplifiers so far (see gallery ). I have been donating portions of the proceeds to diyaudio throughout the process, and have donated $500 thus far. I would like to encourage all group orders to be run like this, in order to help out diyAudio. Thank you to all who have participated.

For those who think that they missed out, I am still taking orders for PCB sets, and basic kits on my website:
http://www.BrianGT.com/order
I am hoping to get the rest of the components for the premium kits soon, but it has been quite a task, since I bought out all small inventories from multiple vendors to fill the first batch of orders, leaving everyone to face the 5-8 week leadtimes from the manufacturers.

Brian,

When you have all the parts for the premium kit how many pieces are you likely to be able to deliver. I have now been waiting a number of months for just a single kit (probable with monoblock up grade) and would not like to miss out.

The is part of a bigger project with satellite speakers and an active sub. I will need an amp for the sub too.

I will have enough components initially for 100 premium kits. For the premium resistors with long lead times, I ordered enough extra to cover 200+ kits, so if more are needed, there are no long lead times to face, just a 1-week pcb order and a digikey order.

gc almost complete.

Well i got my gc premium kit, transformer, rca jacks friday. so i got them all soldered. and have the chassis about 75% done so far. i have a filtered iec socket for power in. and im waiting for the binding post and volume pot from percy audio. to finish the chassis. pretty exited to hear how it all sounds when i get it done. should be finished this wed probably. will post pics when its done. should get my digital camera tues/wed too. yea! lol.

order status update

All US orders submitted recently have been shipped out earlier this week on tuesday/wednesday, and all international orders went out thursday morning.

For the premium kits, the parts haven't arrived yet, and I have been given one shipping date of June 7th. I am hoping that they arrive sooner.

I am still accepting orders for basic kits and pcb sets on my website:
http://www.briangt.com/order
I usually ship out domestic (US) orders in a day or two, and international orders can take a couple of extra days to ship, since I have to fill out customs forms, and drop them off at the post office.

I have temporarily stopped taking orders as of now. All orders recently submitted will be shipped out on Tuesday, when the Post office reopens, since it is closed on Monday, due to Memorial Day.

I am preparing to start accepting orders again for basic kits, and premium kits. I also ordered some 1000uF 50v Black Gate STD capacitors, which I will offer as an upgrade for the premium kits if there is demand for them.

I will post more information in a few days, and also details on when I will start taking orders again.

Hey Brian-

Will the new black gates be avilable via the paypal page/site you have or on request only?

I would definatly be intrested in a set when they are available.

Thanks again for a wonderful product. I am STILL amazed at the quality of the PCB"s and the circuit layout.
