I placed my order and paid for it. It could not have been more easy - nice page design, Brian!

I put my order in... just one TF kit for now, as I had down on the WIKI.
Have a friend who's designing a bridge/parallel amp of about 200w to power a sub with... I may build one...
Just curious how long I have, if I decide to buy an additional four LM3875's?
And, will I have to pay additional shipping, or can I put a comment in my PayPal payment telling you this ships with another part?
I know, sounds like logistical headaches... but let me know, thanks! 😀

As long as I haven't shipped out your order yet, you will not be charged any shipping. Feel free to submit another order just for the chips. I have a database that I am creating for these orders, and it will be based on your name, so if you submit multiple orders, I will combine them and ship the stuff together.

Brian,
Since I no longer have paypal or have a bank account, is there an option for paying by money order?

Well, having just registered after much lurking, I am quite interested in buying one of these kits...I'm talking with Rodd (mod) since he's actually local and also getting one of these kits. Would you be able to accept a payment after 9PM tonight (I'm working until then)?
Other than that, this should be fun...people have suggested I build the amp before I consider getting the chassis in the other thread; how much would all the other parts cost to complete this kit? Thanks guys, this is getting interesting, fast. 😉

Chassis can run $30 or $300, thats all about what you want. You can get transformers at PartsExpress pretty easily. This 24V 5A would work nicely at ~$16 each, especially if you got one for each channel, but even so one for both channels should work fine. Then theres the nice toriods which are better, but cost more. This 22V 7A would be very nice.
Plus you want some extra wire and other hardware to put it all together.

Best thing to do would be to ask if someone could paypal for you..and you send him (or her) the bucks.
transformer question
Would this be a good option, or should I just order one from Victoria Magnetics?

Just noticed that I don't know how to post a link.

Re: transformer question
I would suggest for someone to organize a Plitron group order, as they will probably be the easiest thing to get exactly what we want in a large order quantity.
2x22vac, 300va, potted would work best

A plitron group order will not be feasible unless there's a major interest in them. I would be more than willing to organize it, however as I said, unless there's a major interest, it will not be worth it.
I'll illustrate:
one 2x22VAC, 300VA plitron transformer is $78CDN/$58USD
quantity orders:
10-24 --- $73.50CDN/$54.80USD
25-49 --- $71.55CDN/$53.45USD
50-99 --- $69.59CDN/$51.97
So, the difference between ordering one transformer from plitron, and ordering 100 of them is $6USD per transformer.
That $6USD will be more than used up in shipping costs if they are to be delivered to me (or whoever organizes the order) first, then re-shipped, so likely one would pay more after shipping than they would having them individually ordered from plitron. Even if plitron WOULD be willing enough to ship them separately, the savings are way too little.
Unless plitron offered a $10USD+ discount on each of the transformers, it would not make it worthwhile to do a group order because of the shipping.

Any idea what the lead time is for a single 2x22, 300va, potted transformer ordered from Plitron is? The 2x25vac from PE (300va avel) will take < 2 weeks to get, once the quantity of 4 that they currently have in stock is sold. This might be the easiest to do.

Just jumped in & the waters fine!
Well, I have been avoiding doing this for about 1 year, but the group buy was too much. I should introduce myself: Bret Morrow from Connecticut. I have played around building speakers for a few years. My background is in woodworking, including some music instruments, so the box should not be a problem. The electronics end, well, did I mention my background is in woodworking??? I can solder & with the items selected for me in the group buy, I think I can put it together. I will likely badger y'all about the other components, though.
Thanks Brian for putting this together.
Cheers,
Bret Morrow

The lead time when I ordered from plitron a year ago was a gruesome 4 weeks .. I'm not sure of the build quality of plitron vs avel vs VM, but I am satisfied w/ the plitron (plus it means i don't pay customs!)
sadly, a group buy just doesn't make sense on most transformers since there aren't great discounts for large purchases on them ..

Has anybody tried Hammond?
thanks Brian!
Just ordered my kit.
Thanks !
Now to start scrounging for xfmr and case.......
... "It's just this little chromium switch.."

I would definitely look at Avel-Lindburg.
When i checked, orders of 10 or more 160VA 22-0-22 transformers were 29 dollars each, quite a bit cheaper than plitron, who does have VERY long lead times.

Hi...
There has been a lot of discussion about transformers in this thread... but not much concerning volume control or source switches.. Any recommendations?
Thanks...
