GR Research "The Bully" with built-in active servo subs

I recommend having a listen first or treating a purchase as an experiment.

Cannot be emplasized enuff. Different room, different kit. Despite the fallibility of the ear/brain hearing system, in the end, you have to trust your ears. You are after all the one that has to be satisified with the software you play. Measurements can help you get there, but there are still many things we cannot yet measure, so strict belief that they tell “everything” is a dead end.

Reducing SPL with any speaker makes the sound duller with the lower perceived level of low and high frequencies compared to the mids

Fletcher-Munson. The curves have evolved since originally published, but they take this form.

You are happy with the tops you have, so lets only consider LF. Separate subs with DSPs gives you the opportunity to dial in more bass than would be comfortable at higher levelks but gives you the bottom you’d like at such low leave

There's a guy selling 2 of these used for the equivalent of USD 670:

vaf-mpb-sw2-subwoofer

Will these suffice?

Decent price, ready to go. A front-facing 10” woofer in an MDF box with a big digital amp (300w/4Ω likely strecthes bthings) and an analog XO. These are a dime a dozen. With the miniDSP the XO is superfluous.

Would allow for quick experimentation.

A sealed push-push subwoofer is the easiest kind of box to build. And at that kind of retail, the driver quality is likely close tothe better Jaycars, iam not with current digital amp kits, but i put together a 4x100w/4Ω for $100 USD and abit of assembly. Thiswas a while ago and they haveonly become better and more plentiful. So you could put a pair of push-push woofers for similar cash outlay. But you’d have to do some work. The satisfaction of building yor own succesfukl project cannotbeundrestimated,

At that priceiwould nconsider the, start experimenting, and start thinking about building your own pair to bring the total number to 4… back & front do not have to be identical. Then if yours smoke the "store bought” ones you can goon to your next pair.

Warning: once one starts diying stuff you rarely stop at one.
