If that was the forum I am thinking of do not try DIY moderation. There are worse forums. I got banned from one forum because I asked why a moderator had deleted my post where I advised two people clucking at each other to take their bitching at each to private messages. Too bad, but I had joined diyaudio years before,
You have to report the post and let the moderators tell them using a cheesy pleasy request.
The moderators are now a little less "touchy" than they were 10 years ago but they are still more "touchy" than average.
I frequent a number of forums, and there's a big difference between moderated and unmoderated. Moderation makes it a good place to be.
If you look at otl asylum, which is unmoderated by the looks of it, threads very quickly become quite savage. Perhaps it's the competitive (ok make that adversaries) companies all getting one over on others compared with being constructive. However in the whole if you can ignore the storms, then there's interesting stuff.
One forum doesn't tolerate off topic posting in the threads - oddly that level of moderation made it grow to be one of the largest forums on the internet. Another forum has the same allowance for wandering off-topic posts and the "likes" of posts tend to slowly self govern the content.

Well Nannoo, looks you got it right. Even your goodbye thread derails into a train wreck which has nothing to do with the subject.
OTOH, Bernie88 got himself banned in less than a week after joining, so in that sense the moderation system works well.
You can't win them all I guess ;-)
Have fun,
Jan
Well, I actually think most of it is true to thread topic, and this was posted in The Lounge after all. Most discussions here are a fair bit more open to digressions than what you get in the various other subforums.
It takes a bit of time and effort from everyone to adjust, one small bump in the road shouldn't deter you from discussing with the other nice people here.
...that's one of the long term disease of Covid. This hobby makes the same and have long term neurology issues for those being exposed too much.
But as far I know there is only one Doctor in audio here and this nice Monsieur is called Earl G. 🙂

No he is not (to my knowledge). I believe he headed audio research section for a major automotive OEM (I worked for the same company in a building across from his). He may care to confirm or correct when in good spirits.
p.s. as a sideline: I was at his home auditioning his speakers and I kind of recognized on touch the foam he uses to stuff his waveguides: it felt a lot like foam used for wind screening microphones when measuring sound in the automotive applications, only with larger pores (not sure if he had the supplier modify its properties in any way).

Earl is a medical doctor ? wow didn't know.
Well my french..has he not the doctor grade (math, physic ?) Or perhaps you made a pun?
Hummmm....Goodbye

The thing I try to remember is that most threads are at least of interest to the starter.
Even if they settle into interminable wordiness for the rest of us having to reread them before posting some totally ignored snippet of wisdom.
Average boutique Capacitor discussion usually goes on for 100 pages with no sensible conclusions whatsoever. 😕
I haven't had any Forum Enemies lately. But got two bans for calling one an idiot. 😡
He then got a ban for caliing me an idiot. How I laughed! 😀
I don't take it so seriously these days. I hang round The Lounge a lot, Trolling is Compulsory in The Lounge! Everyone enjoys it. 😎

no pun. I am also a 'Dr.' but not medical and I know more or less anybody with the right kind of PhD can call themselves a 'Dr.' which is not likely to be a surprise to find on a technical hobby forum but a medical doctor would be a huge surprise to me, especially Earl who seems to me as full time audio but heck, maybe he was once an MD and that would be an even bigger surprise. Well, medical doctors, they are usually waaaay too busy to be building their own hi-fi but usually they can afford to buy what they want.

starting a physics degree in 1969, well, I would have been around 5 yrs old 😀
We didn't have a GPA system. You got either a First, a Second (upper or lower), a Third, or something like a 'Pass'. We did get all of our names posted on a noticeboard in order of how well we did in the final exams, the top 3 names got to use that on their resume, unfortunately I was 4th.

Gee Wiz... 4.0 GPA in STEM programs, especially physics and engineering... that's no walk in the park.
I've tried really, really hard, but every time I start inching closer to that 3.8 / 3.9 area, I get some ******** professor / TA who docks points on exams / projects for petty, unrelated stuff.
"You circled your answer rather than boxing it"
"Assignment not accepted, file size > 1 MB".

Bigun you seem antic doctor, ah sorry semantic... or am I a. doctor in dead language . Maybe this doctor in medecine is a médecin -from the old french medechin late MA i.e. Middle Age- itself from the antic latin medicus ? Btw in french we still say a médecin about doctors while we say doctor when we see one, especially with the sentence "C'est grave, Docteur ?"
Earl is also president but not of USA but GedLee LLC reading at LinkedIn 😀
Ok promise I will only say Dr for medecine only in the future 😱 and Eariatrogene (greek root?) for Doctor in audio, while I know a law Doctor I'm calling Maître (Master) who is teaching but this doctor is a good ... practician and not patrician..uh...gives me the Force !
@ Systeme7 : Bigun blamed me 😀
ok guys, sorry my french, do my best ! But I need guys like nanoo as good speakers 🙂... and thanks for the "pas science"

Diyiggy, I avoid using 'Dr' because people might ask me to perform some medical procedure on a long haul flight if a passenger gets ill !
well, in the UK, to make it more confusing, surgeons are not called Dr.
they are called Mr. instead. Apparently, surgery as a trade is descended from barbers and not from the medical profession...."I'll take a short back and sides, and a triple bypass, thanks."
