Putting together a power supply and I need a 50VA 9 volt AC output.
Is there a particulary good brand to get?
I am in the UK so something available in Europe would be best.
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
skibum

But you are living in La France, mon pauvre.
Get 50VA/9Vac R-cores from Selectronic in Paris or Ronchin up north, €23 each.

I've bought from airlink in the past and not been disappointed by the quality 🙂. Deliver has been good as well
airlink 9v 50va
airlink 9v 50va
Thanks for the link to Airlink this is tempting me to make a large Class A amplifier even more. Are their any other cheap European transformer suppliers people know?
I order my transformers from Toroidy.pl - they are cheap, but absolutely worth recommending. My Gainclone went a whole league up after just changing the old trafo (which was previously a very decent Nuvotem Talema) to one of theirs. Make sure to ask for a transformer in "audio realisation" version - these come with a Faraday shield, shielding between windings and grain-ordered steel core as a standard. Also dead quiet.
I recommend also asking them to wind primary over secondary, and to use a 50% thicker wire for secondary (don't ask me why - Peter Daniel tipped me off about this and trafos do seem to sound better this way).
Only thing is, the postage can be quite expensive...

I ended up buying mine from Avel Transformers in the UK. Incredible service from Chris Hall. Highly recommend.

Bad news, Avel Lindberg went into liquidation in January 2019.
Chris Hall was fantastic in helping his customers.

Sorry to hear Avel went under.
The other option is Tiger Torroids in Norfolk, UK who do a fantastic job.
Stephen Foster winds the transformers in his small factory near Diss.
Tiger Toroids is a British company offering a fast and flexible solution for transformers and sinewave inverters.
Specify a GOSS bs d and interwinding screen on a stabilized core. Mention that it’s for audio. I’ve used quite a few suppliers, but his are the quietest - mechanically and electrically.

I was about to place an order and got an email from Nadia at roshepower.co.uk to inform me about Avel Lindberg.
Any of you guys that knows about a good transformer vendor?

Looking for low noise transformers, I have seen contradictory opinions about their R-core transformers.
Bummer about Avel Lindberg
Just got a pair months ago...
I would think by now we DIY would have our own....

Avel is still around they have just closed one facility in England. They make great transformers.
I order my transformers from Toroidy.pl
Thanks Uncle Leon for the connection
I contacted them and they knew exactly what I wanted and in the size constraints. Quick, error free response and quick quote.
Will use them soon

Terry at Canterbury windings in the UK are very good as well used them several times and the transformers are dead silent.

Well,
Goss, not gost 🙁 Goss for "grain oriented silicon steel"
As far as I know, silicon steel is the usual material for transformers magnetic circuits.
I doubt "goss" is best for magnetic shielding, the best is mu-metal or permalloy.

Yes sorry typo its Goss and as you say its purpose is to reduce the stray magnetic field. It may not be as good as MU-metal but its better than nothing
