Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Methane gas from pig $#!t is used for energy source in Bartertown because that's what's available to them.
What will be interesting is rail based city commutes - avg for me was about £4000/year now with 56% increase a commute into london will be £6000+:year. A day ticket rises ~£30/return to £45/return..
The worries will come when they want something in return, sooner or later. Or do you think they do it all out of love?It seems Russia is going to supply cheap oil to us . Here in India . So no worries here .

Major changes in our behavior only come from large shocks. War. Epidemic. Extreme weather.
Look at it as a change for the better, maybe not for us right now, certainly for the kids.

Does cheap oil exist? you should take into account the long term damages caused by climate change. No worries in India you say. What about flooding, droughts, heat, forest fires, and other extreme events? The problem with conventional economy as a science is that Mother Earth does not have an account.

What will happen with India is the same in China - fossil fuel use multiplied by population need will cause considerable pollution.
India has prime technology enablers - it's climate. Sun - solar, Ocean - wave and space.
I remember going through Dehli airport to Pune. The smog was hanging in the transfer/arrivals lounge as you come down the escalators. In Pune airport there's Modhi in a gas company advert hanging from the ceiling saying that gas allows this woman to cook for her husband. India needs more renewable/efficient energy to enable safe and increased quality of life for familes.
A global revolution is coming thanks to the upcoming generation reaching the age that makes them old enough to run in elections.

My focus was more w.r.t Russia revenue from arms trade rather than the indo-china and even Russian-china boarder disputes (I'm aware of the border dispute btw but didn't mention for obvious reasons).India is involved in a border dispute with China, and some equipment was made here with technical knowledge from Brazil and South Africa (they failed to get orders).
The only long term defense ally has been Russia, as a material supplier.
We have never been part of a military joint action with any country mentioned above, except perhaps as part of UN controlled peace keeping operations in strife torn countries.
And we do have joint exercises occasionally, with Russian troops, as also with the US Navy...and USAF too, those are well documented.
A few hundred troops in a climate training exercise is not an alliance.
US Army Rangers (para troopers) have occasional visits to our training centers, but that is again hard to describe as an alliance.
Your statement about a joint military alliance with the countries above seems to be based on grossly wrong information.
Please check up again.
We have had a war with China in 1962, and occasional skirmishes...but no war after that.
Can't call them allies, no way...
I am risking moderation for making a political statement like this, I hope the moderators let it go.
I agree the whole issue is deeping entwined in politics which in turn is heavily based on people's desires.
The point about trade influence of politics is a well documented political process, trade is used as a non-military weapon in the same way as social media and films. Everyone tries to get benefit without loosing too much.
Let's return to gas prices!
I topped up the car @ £1.53/litre for regular diesel last week. I've see £1.71/litre around here. So that's £6.48/US gallon - or - $8.49/US Gallon.
EDIT: I forgot the FX rate 🙂 .... £1.71 = €2.05/litre

How long before Wahling is plausible again?
I didn't know you couldn;t "wear both hats" per se... Cool.Oemcar,
when involved in a thread, the Mods are not allowed to moderate. We have come close but not crossed the line yet but rest assured if it happens, everyone knows the outcome.
Right. but if I want to drive from Toronto to Montréal, I will need to stop for at least an hour in Cornwall in order to make it to Montréal. Not a slag on EV, but I think 600km range is useful. 800km "range" if you like to go 149km/h*.Hi,
monday morning it was 2.01-2.15€/L Diesel to Super+
tuesday morning it was 2.14-2.24€/L Diesel to Super+
I'm getting happier every day driving around with my little rolling torchlight (Renault Zoe).
Having around 50km a day to get to and from work, I just need to recharge once a week.
@kodabmx: You should understand that recharging a BEV asks for a different strategy than fueling.
I'm absolutely happy that I don't have to waste extra km just to 'refuel' my car.
When I arrive at home I just plug it into the wall outlet and the next morning its recharged.
Convenient, easy, no waiting in a lane, no bad smells, no stinky or dirty fingers, no waiting at the cashier, no heartattack when getting the receipt.
Even if You need to drive alot more km per day is the range of new BEVs sufficient to do all of the driving at day and recharge over night -apart from a few extreme cases.
And if someone thinks, he doesn't need a small pause after 400-500km or 4-5h of driving, having a sip and a bite, he's an idiot driver anyway -imho.

If you have an older diesel car, with the warmer weather coming, you can mix 50/50 vegetable oil (rapeseed, sunflower etc.) In europe it is now cheaper than diesel fuel. Did this with my 1991 volkswagen in the past, and ran perfectly well on it. Does make the car smell of pancakes...
(disclaimer: this can ruin the fuelsystem of more modern diesel engines. Check the internet for compatibility.)

France, in the dry, is 130km/h (~80mph).
Going to the nurburg ring, well the old car was cruising at 126mph (202kmh) down the autobahn. When I mean cruising, I mean at max revs for the little go-cart I had at the time.
The car I have now is a 1.6 diesel, Euro5 rated and I would expect the cost of a new catalytic converter after putting rapeseed oil in the tank would outweigh the savings 😱. Since 2017.. I think it's done about 13,000 miles, possibly less. The old car I had done 60,000 miles... in over 12 years. Most of the commute tends to be via rail into London which costs and arm and a leg.
Funny thing wasabii mentions discarded clothing. Now that I no longer visit an office I wear older shirts as long as they have recognizable arm holes and a collar. Sweats are discarded once they have too many holes.
Funny thing I passed two geese while pulling out from a grocery store. Wonder if I could have opened a side door and asked them to hop in. My wife would have done a fine job with any of them as long as I did the prep work.
Are you suggesting dinner or making a coat?
Sounds cheap to me.Yesterday was $1.64 USD per litre
I drive an EV to and from work, but at work I drive a Diesel car.
Had to fill the tank this monday, it cost 2.54 USD per liter, that's 9.61 USD per US gallon. I thought to myself, might as well just fill it up, "tomorrow it'll be more expensive", now it's around 2.78 USD per liter in most of the country, or 10.53 USD per US gallon. Gas/petrol is another story...
Yet is is

It's actually happening now. Transfer of Command in NATO terms. But an Allied style operation, with a single commander ordering troops from various countries, dividing responsibilities....no way, Jose!

Lawmakers in Ontario seem out to lunch when creating traffic laws specific to "distracted driving". To continue on your point, on the 401 highway there are signs indicating penalties involved for engaging in going a multiplicity of variant speeds, include those travelling in excess of 50 km/hr. These are of such length that it requires travelling far under the posted speed limit in order to finish the reading of them. In other words, so distracting and dangerous to finish in the "engaged" comprehensive reading of them that they exist in a contradiction to "distracted" driving.Right. but if I want to drive from Toronto to Montréal, I will need to stop for at least an hour in Cornwall in order to make it to Montréal....

We have gas - Europe needs gas. Smooth move JT. Only fracking it is one of the worst things you can do for the environment. Thats bound to be raising some eyebrows already. They didn't make anything easy when they made this big marble.
If its used in part for stopping the war would that put you for fracking if you were against it in the past?
