The idea of not having to match up multiple MOSFET's is very appealing.

I'm a bit surprised that the bi polar push-pull feeding the "Bricks" (power MOSFET's) doesn't cause its own set of issues.
You probably know this, but the original IRF's in SOT-227 cases, like the IRF FB180SA10, used parallel MOSFET's.
Where as the newer IXFN 180N10 are a single die.
