Has anyone ever tried cryo treating their food? 😉 Take a steak on a camping trip and not only do you not need ice in the cooler with it, you can’t eat it for about 4 days. And that’s no snake oil.
Welcome back gentlemen.

As in burn-in the vacuum tube during normal use. Cryo-treating has been applied to tubes by those who believe in sound improvement by doing so. It's also been applied to audio cables as well, by the believers. Why would you "burn (in)" a tube? Just as moronic as cryogenic treatment IMHO.
But they disagree. Some posted claims on audio forums of significant improvement. Not unlike what you see on this forum.

I had someone in high school claim that if you tapped a 3 1/2" disk on your hand, the data would fall off.
His justification was if you pick up screws with a horseshoe magnet and hit it, the screws fall off...

In other words it is the better solution😛Synthetic oil is to the natural stuff as digital is to analog.
The funny thing is that cryo treatment could cause wire to become brittle, much like too much heat-treating or too much time(aging) after annealling and drawing.
And Cal, when it's a warm hunting season, folks hereabouts put any of their supplies that can take it in the local meat locker.
Fourty below works pretty well in the fall.
A local dairy man(cow-boy?) took liquid nitrogen in a large thermos on a summer fishing trip, he could flash freeze the fish and recharge the cooler at the same time!
Four days, don't know if he could have made it a week.

That is something I never give credibility to.... "claims" from "audiophiles".
Call me cynical, jaded, an old codger, whatever.... I got so tired of hearing "claims". 🙄
What about claims from so called "trained" listener? That is something I never give credibility to.... "claims" from "audiophiles".

The same goes.
There's too many variables among different people's hearing ability, plus toss in individual preferences and some biases.
The bottom line is.... I gotta hear it MYself... it has to please ME...
My completely-digital home audio system, as well as my 20-year-old, synthetically-oiled car, agree. 🙂In other words it is the better solution😛
Forty below is mighty cold for sure but not quite at the same level as cryo treating. Who knows, it might take a week to thaw.Fourty below works pretty well in the fall.
As far as wire goes, a metallurgist friend of mine once said that any value treating might have is instantly lost once you uncoil it.
We used it in our infrared cameras. We made sure we wore welding gloves and full face shields when filling them.A local dairy man(cow-boy?) took liquid nitrogen
Hi Cal,
I'll believe that! Never mind the question of returning the wire to room temperatures or higher. How long would the cryo-treatment benefits last? That's assuming the object wasn't reshaped in any way.As far as wire goes, a metallurgist friend of mine once said that any value treating might have is instantly lost once you uncoil it.

That's an interesting one. There is a tiny grain of reality buried deep in there under the nonsense. It's actually true that severe vibration can demagnetize some types of permanent magnet!I had someone in high school claim that if you tapped a 3 1/2" disk on your hand, the data would fall off.
His justification was if you pick up screws with a horseshoe magnet and hit it, the screws fall off...
Along those lines: if you hold a steel rod pointing north-south, and tap one end repeatedly with a hammer, the rod turns into a weak permanent magnet. (It will deflect a compass needle if you bring it close, etc.)
This happens because the hammer blows jostle loose some of the magnetic domains in the steel, allowing them to align with the weak magnetic field of the earth. Not snake oil, this actually works, though the resulting permanent magnet is so weak as to be useless for anything.
