Funniest snake oil theories

Such is the problem in the world of the subjective experience. It angers me that conmen are allowed to take gullible peoples money without fear of sanction. This goes on in many other markets of course, dietary supplements especially seem to attract the attention of con artists.

Maybe it's just because of how certain parts of the population have responded to current events, but lately I have had absolutely zero patience for conspiracy theories and "alternative science".
You are not alone. People said Prof Brian Cox was highly offensive when he remarked that moon landing loons should be chucked under a bus. No he wasn't, he was speaking for me as far as I am concerned. The current buzz for things such as "alternative facts" is not a good direction for this world.
I consider the flat earth loons as my current enemy No1 in terms of damage to the world of knowledge.

We are headed for the modern version of the Dark Ages if we aren't careful.

Seriously?
I've joined Facebook groups just to see pictures of clouds or lense flares, accompanied by NIBIRU IS COMING!
THE ANUNNAKI ARE RETURNING!!
COVID19 IS THE WRATH OF ENLIL!!!
They are all hilariously sincere, and easy to rile up.
And I used to think my 7th Day Adventist neighbours were hardcore.

The Niburu stuff was good fun, there was a youtube user called GHOSTBLOOD who was a prolific poster in the comments of the most viewed Nibiru vids. He claimed that all optical telescopes sold commercially have been doctored to filter out Planet X, probably NASA (NASA feature heavily in any of this and fit neatly in the Venn diagram of loons who also think Bill Gates is more than just an evil genius😀)
Somebody pointed out that they owned a Meade telescope built a long time before Planet X was "discovered" hurtling toward earth, it cut no ice unsurprisingly.

I too used to join groups so that I could laugh at what music k** followers liked or see some "classified" flying saucer footage to chortle at.
I used to read the forums on the Westboro Church site for laughs then one day I found out it was not a spoof site.I thought it was dry humour made in bad taste until the truth sank in.

Three years ago on this thread I said that the worst and most obnoxious snake oil scam was by an Englishman selling bomb detectors to the Iraqi army and police, $85 million worth of snake oil.
This year for me his crown was knocked off by a resident of Austin Texas who resembles the late comedian Bill Hicks. Shouty man from Austin falls well short of the execrable McCormick for wealth generation but is just as dangerous for the hard of thinking.
Our Texan entrepreneur was (probably still is but not in NYS at least- see Letitia James) peddling silver based toothpaste and bleach based "Miracle Mineral Solution".

I enjoy laughing at bogus audio equipment claims but some things are beyond the pale.

Indeed, there are hoardes of websites containing questionable, if not amusing, drama, wild stories, and (mis)information.
Including this one, of course.

The "freedom" to type whatever with a keyboard, and tapping the "submit" button is there for the masses to use as they feel, within reason.
Nutcases that have lurked unknowingly before this wonderful invention (the internet) are now spewing their wares and changing minds globally, and it's a sad state of affairs.
We all should be concerned.
Add to that, the "authentic" sources of information that people have relied on for ages - news, world events, something that was previously only shared by radio and television.

Because humans are not perfect beings, one has to consider the facts and decide just how much is foolish nonsense, put out there just to make you crazy.
And common sense, however acute, can't always be a tool to determine validity.

But your mention of "flying saucers" got me to thinking....
Sure, those movies of incredible excitement made interesting time-killers in theaters and living rooms via VHS....
I myself enjoyed watching that 1951 classic "The Day The Earth Stood Still" with Michael Rennie, and oddly enough, the moral of that movie made, and still makes, a lot of sense.
Going back to reality.......

It's been decades, since I saw with my own eyes, a "strange craft" without any understandable means of propulsion or earthly design.
As my memory serves me, at 15 years old, I was in awe about it, and mostly forgot that it even existed - instead, just going along with life as normal people do.
But when you see and hear something of a spectacular nature with your own eyes and ears, you never really forget it.
There are credible websites out there with similar tales as mine, and even a colleague of mine has seen the same type of un-worldly craft at around the same time frame - my "sighting" was in 1968, his was in 1970, both in the evenings.

For your interest, or even perhaps amusment, this was a darkish globe about 6 to 10 feet in diameter (no, not some weather balloon either).

Hey, bring on the aliens!..... Having an open, yet not gullible mind, I'd love to meet one!
