Funniest snake oil theories

Nutcases that have lurked unknowingly before this wonderful invention (the internet) are now spewing their wares and changing minds globally, and it's a sad state of affairs.

This is what amazes and alarms me about social media trends. Before the Web, the only place I ever saw over the top nonsense was when I stood in the grocery store line and chuckled at the tabloid's headlines. And I didn't think that anyone believed that nonsense either, but I was wrong apparently.

It's the quantity and quality of woo that alarms me. Flat earth belief seems to be skyrocketing. NASA conspiracy theories are apparently believed by a whole bunch of Americans.

It's a race to full stupid, and the US of A is clearly winning.

Indeed, Eddie, I stand by my opinions that that group of people have always been lurking around, and now utilise the internet to spread their paranoid-driven stories to the rest of the world.
You just don't know what's real, or fake.

As for me, and MY story, it's what I actually saw and heard, saw with my own eyes two hundred feet from my window, and wasn't something dreamt up for attention or status.
I just wished that at the time, I had a camera handy, but now that's a moot point.

I don't believe anything unless and until it's properly vetted. That includes what passes for "news" nowadays.

Who knows what it was. I had a "UFO" in my yard. It was a large drone, controlled by a local teenager. He was harassing all the neighbors by flying it into everyone's yards and looking at their activities with the camera. That didn't last long. I tried to take it down with my three foot cheater bar. I intended to cram it somewhere he wouldn't like. I think someone succeeded, because it disappeared after about three weeks.

I agree. This afternoon Roscoe rocked up to our front door. According to my neighbours he is some sort of pervert.

All I know about him is we yakked it up a storm about Vincent Van Gogh and French Impressionism in general:

He then gave me a book about abstract painter Mark Rothko. This did me a favour with the Telegraph Pub Quiz. I scored an extra point. Because the answer was Rothko.

Anyway, saw him today for the first time in Months. Delivering Soup to our House. Heinz Vegetable and Tomato. He apologised for not being able to afford Baxters. 😱

That's funny, a drone...LOL!

But in my case, in 1968, we didn't have such toys to annoy people with.
As far as I seem to conclude, this "thing" that I saw, a globe-shaped object, was likely some sort of investigative type of device, a probe?

It hovered, motionless, for about 20 minutes above a nearby neighbor's rooftop, I estimate it being around 5 or 6 feet in diameter, dark grey in color.
And a strange high-pitched whine filled the air, perhaps about 12 to 15 kHz, but not very loud, which is what got me out of bed to walk to the window at 1:30 in the morning.
I watched the thing, went to wake mom up, she hushed me and told me to go back to bed.
I went back to my bedroom and stared at that thing, and eventually, suddenly it shot straight up to dissapear into heaven, with the sound immediately stopping.
Not a slow gradual lifting, as a balloon would do, but lightning fast, in the blink of an eye!

Now go figure, what the heck was it? 😱

I'm not saying I don't believe Wiseoldtech. I'm just reserving judgement on why it happened.

That's the thing about unexplained phenomena that a lot of people don't get. It's unexplained. When people ask me questions, my most common answer is "I don't know." I'm talking primarily about metaphysical questions improperly framed as scientific questions.

The thing about woo belief is that it can be the reason for just about anything. And this, unfortunately, is the mindset of an ever increasing number of Americans. They insert their favorite woo into everything. Why does bread dough rise? It must be Niburu. How does water know how to flow downhill? It must be the electric universe.

It's a race to the bottom, and everybody's winning.

You couldn't make it up!

Whatever I said to Roscoe tonight about his generous gift of cheapish Heinz Vegetable and Tomato soup stung him into further action. 😀

The Hallway is now full of a huge quantity of expensive Baxters soup. Just to prove I don't make this stuff up, I have just filled my cupboard with "Carrot and Coriander", "Lentil and Vegetable" and something mysterious to me called "Country Garden".

Hardly made a dent into this generous freebie. Roscoe is apparently just spreading the love. 😎

What???
No Marmite?
How rude! 😱

These are strange times, my friend. 😀

The terrible germ has unexpected side-effects. Portsmouth is going crazy about feeding poor kids who can't get a decent scoff at school anymore, because they can't go to school:

Marcus Rashford: Horseboxes, chip shops and cafes back school meals campaign - BBC News

Local businesses are giving away lunches to hungry kids.

Bravo, I am proud of you, my town! 🙂

We have also gone nuts on ecology. The main drag "Elm Grove" up my road is being turned into a "Bicycle Lane". As a Bicycle owner I quite approve. The Car owners hate it, because they can't park their cars.

I quote:
The opportunity to introduce the cycle lanes came up now was part of the government's "Emergency Active Travel Fund" which is designed to help people travel in different ways during the pandemic.

I have been knocked off my bike in Elm Grove. Just scraped my knee. But I fear North End more in winter darkness.

Cycle lanes are great... as long as people follow them.

Unfortunately, in some places (rural Wisconsin is horrible in this regard) people in large pickup trucks think it's fun to play games with cyclists. It's bad enough that I refuse to ride in some parts of the state because I don't really want to get myself killed.

Respect for others, along with common sense - those qualites seem to have deteriorated in modern times.

I've got an "engine assisted" bike that's sitting out in the garage for about 5 years now.
I've hardly taken it out for a ride.
Why, you ask?

Because hoardes of people behind the wheel of a car have turned into brainless zombies.
Clutching that "smartphone" and multitasking, texting, face-timing, yakking on the phone, not paying attention to the road.....
It's a sickness/addiction, and a danger to others that are vulnerable victims.

Ah, I have an old motorcycle too!
A 1980 Honda "Twinstar" CM200T, sitting lonely out in the back yard now.
I rebuilt the engine back in 1994, haven't ridden it in a long time.
It was the last year they used a 6 volt battery system.

Took it out on a "Toys For Tots" run back then too.
I used to have an addiction with those Claw Machines in the club, and amassed a bunch of stuffed animals, so I packed 'em up in a fancy box, labeled it "give one to a child", strapped it to the back seat of the Honda, and took it to the Childrens Hospital finish line.

Here's me with the Honda back then (1995?)

Over here you get fined for using a cell phone without hands free.... if an accident is proven to be caused by cell phone use, even worse texting or such, the legal reaction is quite harsh.. and well earned...

You need a quicker bike, my friends! Keep ahead of trouble.

The people who brought us "Pearl Harbour". Who can catch a Kawasaki!

My dream bike. Probably fails emissions tests these days. 😱

Friend at tech college late 70's had an H2😀 Was planning a trip down the M4 to Wales, couldn't make it because the service stations were too far apart.

Someone else I knew had an H1, spat him off twice in a straight line😡
