Funniest snake oil theories

Interesting topic from Belden Q and A ...

Cheers Scott, I know there are differences but how often are we going to reach the limits in normal domestic situations (or even in moderate sized commercial buildings)... I did put up some differences in losses between solid and stranded, stranded having higher losses at higher frequencies.
I maybe should have qualified my comment by saying at normal domestic cable lengths we wont notice a difference IMO.😉

So what. This is an audio forum, not a gigabit data forum. More audiophoolishness: take something that only applies to VHF signals and use it directly on audio frequencies. Both impedance matching and stranded core fall in this catagory.

Same with OCC copper.

Take something designed to implement nanocircuitry, and claim it makes for a sonically better 22 AWG wire.

I think the humor went right over your head. Maybe a bad joke. 🙂 What makes a difference in digital video does not usually make a difference in analog audio.

What distances are we talking re stranded vs solid core?
50-100 feet. Although the specs say that stranded should be fine for HD video over those lengths, in practice it often does not work. 🙁 I sure wish it did, the solid core cable is a royal PITA.

Yes I did some CATV/telephone installation for a while when it was new to the UK (paid by job and in the early days good money could be made initially), solid core does not like bending and when your messing with RG11 and bigger it can be fun.
Must look into this more with HDMI as I am thinking of putting up a projector and will require a 10m run at a guess...

SOtM sMS-1000SQ | AudioStream gotta love this.

A music server, with 'audio grade USB3.0 outputs' but a linear power supply. has a lower noise floor than just using your/ generic server.

LOL it's just a basic mini ITX board in a case with some software, and for 3k$ OUCH!!! You don't need a super fast computer to play high resolution files.

Look at the Raspberry Pie-2 it does it all for 77$

That doesn't fall into the snake oil category, overpriced yes, but i dont see it as snake oil.

What constitutes "audio grade", besides "shiny"?
I'm contemplating putting my 3000 CDs into a computer; this is a problem, as my phone is the closest I've come to owning a computer.
So far my best plan is to go to a mom and pop computer store, tell their wonder kids what I'm after, and let them build one for me.

There are so many options out there it's not even funny 🙂

here is an example of what i just did for a friend.

Raspberry Pie-2 & lucid Labs dad, with Moode player on it, Installed the app on his phone.
Bought a Western Digital Nas box with 4 x 2tb drives in raid 10 ( one fails it will auto rebuild and save data.

Then configured the Pie player to read all music from it, so far HE LOVES it so simple to use and run..
