Pretty much. Lets parse your response down a bit with some facts.
Bybee devices claim to use a secret, military grade technology.
The only data available fro the developer for them is effectively a child's doodle on graph paper - it lacks any detail that would allow independant confirmation.
There is no data on listening tests that confirm the devices produce any statistically significant effect.
The owners of the devices claim to have inserted them in a variety of circuit locations. They report a wide range of effects, and in some cases, no effect.
The placebo effect and its various similar effects are well known and documented psychological phenomena. All of the people who report hearing differences do so after personally fitting and in most cases personally buying the device(s). Under those conditions, it is entirely consistent for the reports to be that a difference was identified and that it was positive.
The effect of the Bybee device is real. It is only real however when the individual reporting on it knows the device is there.
It becomes more real if they fitted it, and even more real if they paid for it. I suspect it would become even more real if the device required internal fitting for the user (consistent with the "alien" processes described earlier). This level of commitment generally increases belief. This last bit is not in the reports, its my contention, but it fits with the known science and doesn't rely on shiny metal, quasi-celebratory endorsements and claims of quantum effects that have not been demonstrated.
Far from me being the close-minded one, I contend that role is taken by the true bybee-lievers who refuse to consider (or even allow for) such a well known widely acknowledged effect.
Suppose Jack had claimed to use African Bat Shite in the bullets , so what, we all agree the science claimed is BS, thats not in dispute or an issue, what is , are those claiming no difference without even hearing the damn things and when confronted, regarding them making a difference, then it's all in their heads, because they want to spend 5K on such crap ..... 🙄

OTOH we are confronted all the time by those who swear by the pictures of your amp in the freezer, CD de-magnetizers, and Geoff Kait's teleportation tweek. A priori why would I act differently on one vs. the other? That is not being there and having no idea of how or what was done to reach those determinations. I only see it stated that they make a difference as a given fact not to be questioned.
It's important to understand that key elements of any scam like this include a compelling story and a price tag to match. The mark is buying the story (or, as Nelson Pass like to say, they're buying "entertainment"), and the silly price is part of that. That's all part of preparing the brain to use its imagination.

We are all used to listening to recordings that are altered during the PB process by system self noise.
This system self noise is variable according to the circuit design, and quality of the system components and materials.
The Bybees reduce/alter this system self noise.
The BQP subjective effect is therefore variable according to the system quality/self noise.
On a lesser system (my car stereo), the subjective effect is clearly heard.
On much quieter/higher quality systems, the BQP noise reduction has less subjective effect.

Even though I haven't heard one in action, it seems clear to me from the reports I've read here that they have an effect - there are vast numbers of materials, devices and manipulations that will have an effect on the sound, so first step is to decide whether there is truly a significant net benefit, rather than merely a 'change'; the second, for me, would be to work out an alternative method for achieving an equivalent or better improvement using low cost materials, or tweaking; third, if the benefit, if real, proved impossible to mimic using other means would be to try and understand what the true nature of the interaction is.
You guys have convinced me: I should buy one of these Bybee-Curl Power Conditioners for myself. Then we will see, (or at least, I will) '-)
I don't espouse the devices. I do maintain hearing a change in playback quality , so subtle that you're almost certainly right: I doubt I would notice if not listening for it.
Possibly all I was hearing was the cut connection being re soldered, with no guarantee of a good solder joint .
Maybe this weekend I'll try soldering a piece of wire into a crossover and see if I can hear a difference...

With the proviso that all manufacturers and tuners understand the Law of Diminishing Returns. They are also pragmatists who generally have a laptop attached to the vehicle and a stopwatch in their tightly clenched fist.

I was fairly shocked several years ago at the now defunct Sound Room in Vancouver, when a salesman got tired of me mocking the Totem brand "beaks" as a scam.
On warble test tones, two on top of each speaker made a 1.5 db rise @ 10,000 hz at the listening chair, with a RadioShack spl meter.

Still can't go along with the Mani2 veneers sounding different from one another because colour is trans dimensional though...
