Showing my 2 full range planars and DIY amp using 2 6au5gt's and 1 ECC 88 + RECTIFIER. Very happy with the sound no more funny noises I had with mylar or polyethylene. At last I have arrived at my final design after many years of trying. Got a few more wood to build a few more full range planars.

Wall speakers
My rather simple but nice sounding wall speakers for the kitchen, based on Vifa 9 BN 119/8 (Peerless FR35/8, Peerless TC9FD-18-08). The design is a folded TML (overall length 120cm) called "Vifantastisch" and was published by a user on a german language board.
Material is plywood and wool felt for the front.

I am quite happy with the speakers' sound. I find it hard to compare them to anything similar, since they are my only full range speakers (yet).
Subjectively judged, they sound warm, not to analytical. They somewhat lack high frequency definition, but still: Hi-hats and cymbals sound natural to me (i am drummer myself). Bass is good, though not super punchy. Music with overly electronically enhanced bass drums (or synthetic bass) is not their strength, but jazz and normal rock, or even "lighter" metal, is. Voices sound great.

Horst - you pretty much described what "decent" FR drivers this size class excel at in almost any suitable enclosure.
Yes, that's two qualifications - all loudspeakers utilizing current technology and materials will have some compromises - and as much of a fan of them as I am myself, there's no real argument that small full rangers somehow magically escape that.
At the other end of the spectrum, I recently had the privilege of recalibrating my "aural matrix" by listening to several large well esteemed domestic multi-ways of what I think could be described as conservative, old school engineering. Specifically; JBL L300 Summits, 4315 monitors, and Tannoy Westminsters. All were extremely dynamic, played dangerously loud and the Tannoys in particular delivered tons of bass, but cost and space requirements aside, none of them I could live with. OTOH, their limitations notwithstanding, I find the well beyond best by date pair of KLH17s hanging on the shop wall to be far more musically enjoyable.
I'd almost apologize for digressing, but absent vitriolic personal attacks, isn't the opportunity for innocent diversion part of why we frequent these fora when there are probably much better ways to expend our energies? I understand that world peace thing is still a work in progress 😀

Jordan Eikona 2 Home Cinema
Just read the news about Ted Jordan's passing. Very sad.
It prompted me to post some pictures of my DIY home cinema using Ted's Eikona 2 driver. There's still lots to do but it's now working with 2 channels.
Each speaker has its own monobloc MyRef_C with Ultimate BOM and sounds stunning. I just need to finish the last three amplifiers and it will be good to go.
All of the speaker enclosure designs are from the Jordan website.
The screen will use Seymour Center Stage XD AT material.
I'd read many good things about Ted Jordan's speakers but not much about using them in this application so it was a bit of a gamble. I'm very pleased to say that they sound amazing and bring a smile to my face every time that I listen to them.

Scan-Speak 10F/8242G + 26W/8534G, passive crossover at 330 Hz
24 mm BB plywood front top rear, 16 mm sides.
Without paint / veneer, i like light BB color as is for now.
Sound is rich, neutral and clear.
Performs well whatever you are listening to.

Four Frugel-Horn Mk3's make up this 5.1 HT with a matching Fostex center channel speaker and sub.
Very nice, Poultry! Any negative effects from having the mouth of the horn so close to the wall? Also, what is the finish on the wood?
Maybe slightly less bass which the sub more than makes up for.

hey, the rear channel surround / effects must sound pretty interesting with the FH3's ambient sound stage - looks like you might have lucked out on the room

Never heard of the Aucharm P810. Comments about the sound? And that's an interesting box. Did you design it?

They are 8" full range with light weight cones, high sensitivity 94db and low xmax. The boxes are sealed 80 litre (3cuft) with well damped thin 12mm ply walls and have a qtc of 1.
I veneered them in figured American black walnut.
They have an f3 of 60hz and f10 around 40hz in room they have good response to about 35hz . The low xmax limits bass spl although they have easily enough for me, I have a spare sub which I might call into action for parties. In terms of size vs bass extension you could probably do better.
I have been very pleased with their sound in particular the mid range detail and they also extend to about 19khz, however they have required quite a lot of equalising around 15khz by -6db and also in the presence region.

Thanks, Simon. Very helpful description. Sounds promising. Nice job on the speakers. I tremble when thinking about veneering...but should try sometime. I assume they are not only well damped but also well braced? 12mm ply seems pretty thin for that size box. Anyway, cheers.
