As I mentioned in an earlier post, my speakers use the Revelators discussed in this thread. They're do mid-range duty in a 10" three way in which the mids and tweeters are in a sealed section. I live in SoCal. Not near the beach, no humid or salty air. I have used Scan-Speak drivers without problems, but probably only for the last five years or so. I used different brands before that. I'm embarking on a significant project built and getting ready to order my Scan-Speak drivers, but if others have had issues in normal climates, I may have to re-design.
You live in a fairly dry part of the country, and have to be indoors due to cold weather for most of the year, in a temperature and humidity controlled area, which means the equipment inside is not so stressed as in other places.

I have speakers in Perth, Western Australia. It's climate is described at a temperate Mediterranen climate with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. It is the sunniest capital city in Australia with clear blue skies for 70% of the year!

My failure rate with Scan-Speak has been zero. Something is going on but it's not enough to turn me off buying SS... the failure rate may actually be quite low in the grand scheme of things.

Your storage and use areas may be dry.
Perhaps some changes were done to the materials used after you acquired them in the factory, for whatever reason.

This could easily be operator dependent. They may have used a strong flux to solder to the tinsel. If this was not removed and then partly covered in glue, it will be a corrosion hot spot
Another cause could be the change over to lead free solder, at that time a lot of variation was seen in solder and flux formulas.
A combination of aggressive flux and poor quality solder may be responsible, the posters who reported 'no problem' seem to have drivers from before the lead free era.
It could also be that some portion of the production was shifted to China or elsewhere, the parent plant becoming an assembly area.
There must be 10 people in sales, accounts, administration and so on, leaves about 14 people on the shop floor, and shipping etc.

Yes I really like the drivers. Can't fault the mechanics, split paper cones etc. I have a passive sub with 12" + passive radiator I designed using Scanspeak and it hammers. The faulty mids I've repaired now and they're fine. A note from the manufacturer saying yes, we're aware and isolated it to such and such timespan a couple of years ago would inspire confidence. A small batch flux/glue issue is most likely imho.
hoping ScanSpeak comunicate officially about that... should not be a problem to be solved in the plant wherever it is made.
About climate and problem with scan s. , i am living be line from Adriatic sea 270km or about 170 mile.
I sacrificed an element to make sure. It measures 5.6 ohm when measured directly on the coil wires. There's no visible damage other than the corrosion. Still have three drivers with the same problems, but I don't have time to repair them. Wondering if I should sell the rest of the components of my ZRT system and build something new? New set of elements is about AUD $1200.
Scrape or cut it to reach the wires? Would it work to heat the glue up with a soldering iron and simultaneously try to re-solder the wires?
