Four Scanspeak Revelators dead at the same time, no visible damage

Try not to use hot glue, too many variations in composition, and some go bad over time.
I would try to use quick set (10-15 minutes) epoxy from a good brand.
And if you use acidic silicon, instead of neutral cure silicon, even that is corrosive.

There are competitors to Scanspeak, and they do not have the volumes the others like JBL have.
Their decision.

Yeah thanks I'll keep an eye on the hot melt anchoring of the solder join. Strewth that's 2 done and I still feel like a butcher.
Good pulling the driver apart and playing around with setting the cone while driving it with a 50Hz tone though. Gives you a feel for it.
It's a little flaky until the glue starts to set on that yellow centre stabilising membrane - then you lose the 50Hz chatter when gently pressing on cone gasket at 12,3,6, 9 o'clock tweaking the centreing of the VC.

Why? are you talking in relation to humidity + heat effect on this manufacturing fault? Can't see that being the issue at all.

I reckon the glue itself reacted somehow with their termination method to cause oxidation of the silver on the tinsel or something?

btw owareyagoinmateorriteyeah?

There is a relation to temperature for most chemical reactions, and galvanic corrosion is accelerated by humidity.

Iron rusts more when it is humid, that is well known.

The issue here seems to be related to the maker's choice of materials, and possible defects in their procedures, you are seeing the same defective joint in the units repaired so far.
And that seems to be galvanic corrosion.

Use a brass intermediate wire for the next repair, it will be more neutral towards copper and aluminum.
Tin coated copper may work better than plain copper, I think.

I’m thinking the heat and humidity up far north QLD and NT may affect it. But I’ve lived in Melbourne during 2020-2021 and if you’re having failures then something else is going on.

Waddya reckon?

Has anyone had problems with the Scan-Speak drivers without living in a humid/salty climate?

I live in SoCal. Not near the beach, no humid or salty air. I have used Scan-Speak drivers without problems, but probably only for the last five years or so. I used different brands before that. I'm embarking on a significant project built and getting ready to order my Scan-Speak drivers, but if others have had issues in normal climates, I may have to re-design.

As the design / materials are known to be trouble prone, better look elsewhere for drivers
