Well, if you find the 0.5ft^3 box acceptable, you shouldn't have any problem with Vampyr -action is QW rather than reflex, but tuning is similar, & Vp is actually a litte less at 0.47ft^3.

If you can't get them near corners (preferable) & you felt you needed a little more in the midbass, a 0.5mH inductor paralleled with a 3ohm resistor in the hot lead will do the trick nicely. Should be OK without, but always good to have the option there, right?

10:1 close to aperiodic TL, in a low diffracrtion box should make it to 200 Hz, probably 150 Hz.

PS: The Dayton sub kits use an MDF box?

Thanks for the info Dave!

BTW, yes the Dayton sub is in a sealed MDF enclosure...

I guess kinda hard to get a decent Ziess lens in that little package - have you been using it much as a music server?

Either that or Canon L series glass. 😀

No, I haven't used it as a music server yet. The only thing I've done is run Pandora on it quite a few times and it sounds pretty good. The best "cell phone" I've ever heard. LOL

And now with the tube pre in the mix, I am short an 1/8" to RCA cable (using the one I have between the SI T-amp and sub output). I need to get another one for I can hook the iPhone up to the system again. 🙄

Very good news! Thanks Scott.

Maybe I'll get a couple of 0.5mH inductors and 3 ohm resistors to play around with these cardboard enclosures, just to see how it sounds.

with either the native or aftermarket apps, will the iPhone do Airtunes?

you could transmit to AE, then with the mini toslink cable to a reasonable DAC.

I just received a Citypulse DA7.2x; what with other projects, I haven't turned on my main audio system for several weeks - now I'll have an excuse to play late into the night again .

I think the iPhone will do AirTunes, but I have never bothered with it and AFAIK, it can only work over a WiFi connection, which makes sense.

That's a good reason. 🙂

Pity we don't have anything like that over here. Although there's talk of a Trafalgar day, which gets my vote, as it falls at the right time of year.

Yeah, sometimes my gut over-rules my thoughts. LOL

With such a large turn-around during the Trafalgar battle (27 ships vs 33 and taking out 22 enemy ships while not loosing any of their own), I'm surprised there isn't a holiday for Trafalgar. That was an epic battle that should be remembered at least with a national holiday. Hopefully for you guys, you get it voted in. Heck, I'll even put in a vote for it! 😀

More the merrier mate. 🙂

Yes, it's been an odd ommission -people have been saying for years we really should have one (no offense intended to any of our French or Spanish members I hasten to add, it's not meant that way), as the UK has fewer national holidays than most other EU nations, and none at all in the latter part of the year.

Just a little update...

The current Teac 5-disc changer I have been using in my little secondary system has served my brother and I very well over the years. It's from 1996 and actually sounds quite good. However, over the past couple of years it has developed a problem of not wanting to properly read all of the tracks on the last 2 CD's. Some of the tracks it will play perfectly fine, and some it will get part way through them then start skipping and hanging up on them. It also emits an ever so slight ticking sound from within the unit on these last 2 disc's, with or without the skipping.

Some years ago, probably same time and vintage, I had an Onkyo DX-C330 6-disc changer. This was an excellent sounding unit easily besting both of my oldest brother's Carver CD players at the time as well as my other brother's said Teac above and my father's top-of-the-line Denon single disc unit. It had a very full, warm, well rounded analog sound to it. It had a very extended and refined sound to it. Unfortunately a few years later I bought a Sony DVD player that also played SACD's, so the poor Onkyo sat there collecting dust. I eventually (and now regrettably) sold it about 5 years ago. 🙁

To get to the point of this post, on Thanksgiving Day, I was browsing around on eBay and found a mint, barely used Sony CDP-CA70ES 5-disc changer complete with the original remote, manual and box. Well, I kept an eye on it all day while searching online for reviews and such. After I was satisfied with what I had read about this unit, I decided to put a bid on it at literally the very last few seconds of the auction. It had jumped up $20+ in just a few minutes, but my single bid won it at a excellent price of $62.87. I ended up paying even less than that thanks to a coupon that I didn't even realize I had until I went to pay for it! LOL

Anyway, this particular model dates back to around 2001-2003 I believe. From what I gather, it seems to have similar sound qualities to my old Onkyo, but even better considering it is an ES model, and only second down from their top-of-the-line. In fact, from what everyone says, this one actually sounds much better than the top-of-the-line one since that one included SACD playback for an extra $200 and the Red Book CD section suffered.

That's about it for now.

So very true Scott.

BTW, I was just wondering, if I were to get a couple of inductors and resistors to play around with BSC in my current cardboard enclosures, how much attenuation should I go with, -3, -4, -5dB?

I know it should be measured and determined from there, but just to start out and experiment, how much would you say roughly? And yes, I know the inductor value also changes with the amount of attenuation I go with.

I just don't feel like setting up my mic and everything else ATM and downloading and installing SynRTA on my PC. I don't even know if it will even work in Windows Vista Ultimate.

Thank you sir. 😉

According to the BSC calculator on diyaudioproject's site, it looks like I would need a 1mH inductor and 3.1 ohm resistor.

My cardboard baffles are 9.75" wide and puts me at 467.7Hz. Now does this still hold true since I have the 103 mounted off to one side of the baffle and not centered like normal?

I'm about to order a couple of Madisound 1mH 19awg inductors and 3 ohm Eagle resistors. My question is...

Are these Madisound 19awg inductors good enough to just play around with until I get these drivers in real enclosures? Or should I invest just a tad bit more and go with bigger, better ones?

It doesn't mention anything at all about its DCR, or any specs for that matter. I'm assuming they will be good enough for experimenting.
