Fosi ZD3 with Burson Audio V7vivid pro dual and a lead-gel battery as power supply

In Windows it is better to use WASAPI Exclusive mode if resampling of audio streams needs to be avoided. There are audio players (e.g. Foobar2000) that support WASAPI Exclusive. Actually in Windows the default resampler as such is not the problem but various APOs (Audio Processing Object) that are applied unless WASAPI Exclusive is used.

I ordered a linear power supply with an R-type transformer and will also make a filter for it.

=> Make sure it is a REGULATED powersupply... if not, you could end up much worst than an SMPS + AmyAlice

The LDOs inside your unit work better with regulated clean supplies...

Ja, klar, ein geregeltes Netzteil, was sonst?
Aber das war nicht wirklich das Thema dieses Threads.

. I drive DACs directly from Windows with ASIO and device drivers... but I wanted to use Android

If you mean "Android smartphone" - then no problem, Neutron player is not expensive and plays PCM and DSD perfectly via USB.

P.S. I also want Android, but not on phone, so currently I do not have solution.🙁

don't see spending 800 bucks on a PC to drive Tidal HiFi into a DAC

Why $800?! You want also to play the modern games or work in huge CADs on this PC?

For sound I use an old Intel NUC (my wife's former PC, on a dualcore Celeron), which was cheaper 10 or 12 years ago.
Works great. It was Win 7, now Win10 and APlayer.

Now you can buy something like this:

for $150.

Alex.

When the DAC Meisters come around everything except the DAC of the thread is the subject 🙂

PLEASE do not use the trigger words.

OP has an Eversolo DMP-A6 as source with a Fosi ZD-3 as external DAC. Not an octocore Windows 12 pc with Ubuntu 17.3 dual boot configuration resampling skewed bits via Foobar 12.78 that converts them to bitperfect streams helped by (of course!) DIY USB 3.2 gen 2 isolators with femtoclocks nowhere available as they are hidden in a secret lab.

The subject as described is already hard enough as it is IMHO as there are some misconceptions, config/setup errors and uneven comparisons ("open" power amplifier versus normal volume controlled integrated amplifier for instance).

Something else on the topic.
I got two Burson Audio V7 Vivid Pro duals today, so I can populate all the op-amp slots with the V7 this evening. Let's see how it sounds.

I was showing my wife how to use her Android cell phone to run Tidal Connect over the WiiM Ultra - > Burson Swing DAC in the living room system.

She asked me "how do I change the volume?"

Gotta tell ya... it sort of caught me unawares for a second... then I looked and

"Here, the preamp has a volume knob"

I tell ya... all these simple problems we had solved 100 years ago...

That sounds really good. I've now switched from the Fosi's XLR connectors to the Naim's DIN5 connector. The Fosi sounds really good with three Burson Audio V7 Vivid Pro duals. I can't say whether it's worth the price, but I'll try out a few recommended amplifiers again.

Price? Been there...

I think that a lot of the DACs... once you've reached a certain point, and once you get bit perfect Hi Bit Rate going into them... the difference is the analog output.

Take a 300 dollar DAC and put 300 dollars of opamps.... seems to be the game. Now, if only the Fosi accepted something like Tidal Connect over ethernet...

I need to redo my Topping to accept opamp rolling...

Question... when you run the balanced mode, does it get hot?

I was warned, and verified, that in the Topping D90, when both SE and balanced outputs are enabled, it gets pretty hot... The Burson generate heat but they have larger heatsinks so that might help a lot, huh?

The Fosi Audio ZD3 with Burson Audio V7vivid Pro dual on all OP-Amp slots does not even get warm to the touch

Fun project!

I have just purchased this dac and here is my plan:

I want to swap I/V (XLR) opams to sparkos ss3602 as I only use XLR outputs.

I plan on getting (making) linear PSU. Any suggestions on ready to use ones from aliexpress?
If I make one I will probably use antek transformer and lm317 regulator .
Wonder how much Amp rating psu should be?

Did anyone test what capacitors are in the feedback of the I/V circuit? If they oversize them too much it will affect open loop gain to the point where no matter which opamp is installed the sound is going to be the same. I also plan on upgrading those caps to film type but since they are SMD it will be quite a challenge.

Interesting..

I have a different DAC that I opamp rolled and tried opa1656, opa2134, and originally installed opa1612. Those were soic-8 packages and were pain to solder. Also tried removing feedback caps for I/V circuit but it oscillated so had to solder those back in and everything worked fine. those are smd 0603 btw 😭 😂

Dac was Sabaj A10d with ess9038q2m dac chip.

After listening to opa1656 to me it sounded too grainy with too much highs.

opa2134 was amazing and my favorite but with highs not as pronounced as I would like.

opa1612 was best in terms of balanced sound.

It will be interesting to try them in fosi zd3 - i have soic to dip adapters that i can solder those on.

But again, that cap in the feedback is potential bottleneck. I might just run a simulation in LTspice to confirm how low in value I can go without it oscillating.
