Just wondering which speaker (M60 or XdS) you would consider a lower distortion system when used with the subwoofer(+120hz).

I really like the looks of the M60 , but I'm concerned about using it with the passive crossover . That woofer has a much lower break-up mode than the XdS. M60 must be killer with the XdA

I haven't taken any measurements on the M-60's yet (work keeps getting in the way), so I'll probably have better feedback when I do. The two main differences I hear (again, with an XdA) between the XdS's and M-60's have to do with output capability and off-axis response geared for near-field vs. far-field listening (it's best to take the 2nd item with a grain of salt, but that's how it sounds so far).

The M-60 has a lot of output and bass extension advantages over the XdS, which you'd expect given how much bigger it is (I'll post a comparison pic this weekend). But if you dynamic needs aren't very demanding, it may not matter much with a 120 Hz crossover. On the 2nd part, listening in a near-field fashion with lots of close walls (which is what my sitting area is), the M-60's give a more focused, controlled sound, where the XdS's seem, to me, to be reflecting more sound energy off the walls around them. I'll have to confirm this better by trying the M-60's in my main listening area as well. We'll see.

Hi HornsKeith,

Thanks for posting your observations.

Can you comment on what, if any, tonal balance differences you hear between the M-60s and the smaller XDS? Are the 60s, which were intended for monitoring, balanced more brightly than the XDS when using the XDA?

Any additional comments on the sound differences between the two would be helpful.

I've really only spent a little bit of evening time over one or two days listening to the M-60's, so I'll probably need some more time to firm up impressions outside of the two general points.

Because I've been going back and forth between the M-60, XdS+XdW, and XdS only, hopefully these pictures can help convey the relative size and appearance of the three.

Just a heads up, I saw two XdW w/ XdA included available in ebay last night for $895 w/ free shipping and I purchased one. I was going to post the ad for the 2nd unit this morning (it was late last night and I was sleepy) but unfortunately, the 2nd unit is gone now.

My point is, for those who wants to get the XdA, check on ebay regularly and you might get lucky. It's weird that the seller included the XdA w/ the XdW and not w/ the XdS w/c they also sell.

here's the link for the ended ad http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=350181057343

WOW , that was a score and a half.

Has anyone on the EAST coast purchased speaker pairs or subwoofers? I'm trying to get some idea on shipping these items to N.Y. I have already (Happily) paid the $10 fee Jack requires for quotes , but I just hate to bother him for each item , as I change my mind each day on which combo to get. I would really like to just buy 2 of each:cheerful: But I know shipping is way expensive from the West coast for all this.
Just trying to save Jack some trouble

I'm guessing that is your re-modelled crosssover. Did you get to the listening part yet?
Curious if you did a remodell of the M-60 crossover using off the shelf parts
Yes, that is my crossover posted a while back. Basically all I wanted to achieve with it is the addition of a notch filter at the cone resonance. The crossover schematic included in the measurement package for the M-60 includes a notch, so I'm not sure if there is a whole lot to gain from a redesign there.

I listened for a couple hours last night, and they do sound rather lovely. I'm not going to get into any details, describing sound is a lost cause.

Thanks for that info. No doubt I'll comfirm with Jack.

I don't think jack really does quotes, at least that's what his site says. He has to package the order up, then figure out the shipping. I'm sure it takes time to do that, and then have the person cancel just because of shipping costs would be a bit irritating after a while I'm sure.

At the bottom of his page it tells you how to figure shipping for almost all items he has. You simply go to the UPS website, enter your zipcode, and Jack's zipcode and the weight. It tells you what shipping will be and you're good to go. If you like the price, you order.

Which is the reason I asked in an earlier post if anyone on the East coast bought any of these items. My intention was only to NOT make Jack go though all that work. Seems like he has his hands full already. Shipping across the country for some of these pieces it not inexpensive. At least I now have some idea what the final cost will be. And I didn't need to trouble Jack

I wasn't trying to be rude or anything like that. I was just trying to help you figure out a closer shipping cost for anything you might want to order. The shipping on my last couple orders came out pretty much exactly what the UPS site said they would.
