If you can't build a J2 or borrow one, then buy one.
Like the F4, it's one of those amps you just have to hear if you're a fan.

I built ZM’s babelfish J2 with SS parts. Assuming that’s a close experience to the production J2, I agree with you 100%!
I build EVUL's version of J2 and was not expecting what I heard.
If F8 is an upgrade, it must be fabulous.

Might come down to whether you like simpler signal path or balanced operation. I wouldn't predict J2 fading in the limelight.

As has been mentioned numerous times, specs are objective while listening enjoyment is subjective. Better specs don't automatically increase subjective listening enjoyment. 🙂
Ive built a $#^/ ton of amplifiers and listen to a %$=/ ton more. I'm very aware they sound different and ound does do not always correlate with the specs.

There are at least 2 definite improvements, and one possible negative depending how OCD you are.
