Find here Parametric CAD files for loudspeakers plan - Hornresp integrated

I cannot see the single bodies/panels here.

Hello @pelanj

I found a solution in order to make the panels in a multi body way, as predicted it increases the tree complexity, but using the HIDE function I was able to manage it keeping things simple for new users as it's right now. Other small tricky was needed in order to create the baffle hole.

Could you test it in order to see if it improves your experience?

I'm thinking to extend this improvement for all design options, but first, we need to understand is in the right direction.

Hello,

New plans released as indicated below:
  • TH-T18
A page in the menu was added to compare availability and name with boxplan.

This will be the last model released for a while. I will start a new phase to fix issues and incorrect definitions, I might start the migration to multi body too once it might improve user experience and allow assembly export and better interface with 2D drawing in order to allow panels detailed drawing inside FreeCAD moving to the direction to allow freedcad to be a complete solution for CAD, not needing to user other CAD software in a future.

Current know issues:

  • HessBH is missing the last horn length in the segment H4.
  • Some compression Ratio values are incorrect calculated (this information does not effect simulation results but impact cone life evaluation)
  • The total box volume formula is not taking into account side panel thickness so the value is slightly lower then it should be.
  • Bandpass boxes witch uses bandpass hornresp model are missing offset definition for the chambers (Lo1/Lo2)
  • TH-Cubo has wrong segments indication in the system models and so a check is needed in the hornresp spreadsheet data.

Hello,

Big announcement today:

  1. All issues were fixed (at least I hope so).
  2. All models were converted into multi-body.
    • You now are able to select and view single panel.
    • You now are able to create 2D drawings for each single panel, if desired (use TechDrawing tool for it and check attach example).
  3. New automation levels were introduced and users now have up to 5 different levels to use regarding individual needs. (see attachment #2)
    1. Two new macros are now available in the pack file (model.zip).
    2. Automation page was created
  4. Boxplan page was created to support correlation and availability.
  5. Some renaming and punishments were done at some models and also at website menu.
    1. Horn with sealed chambers were placed into a specific group now. All the others Horn loaded design are at the same group Others.
  6. New models were released:
    1. Paraflex C2A
    2. BP6P3
    3. BP6P4
    4. BP6P5
    5. VBSLOT1-b
  7. Tips and Tricks page was updated about how to change Units preference.

Hello,

New plans released as indicated below:
  • BP6P6
  • BP6P7
  • BP6P8
  • BP6P9

Website source code has been improved in this meantime.

I don't know if anyone was able to reach the automation level 5 and if it was useful for the ones that like to do fine tuning to evaluate all possible improvements to achieve. Changing sketch values from macro is much faster.

There is no more new designs in the pipeline. I think it has enough options to make people busy. In this meantime I was making some promotions here and there to make people aware of this tool option for loudspeaker design but encouraging people to try something new is not an easy task. lets wait the time do some work now and see if it bring some answers.

I am now very happy on level 3. I really like the sequential saving directly to the Hornresp import folder. I really need to explore the 2D export. One tip for improvement - you could add automatic generation of mounting holes. One can do it easily manually in two minutes in any 2D CAD. I use CNC to cut the holes and panels that fit to its working place. That is just in case you would feel some itch for improvements🙂

I hope to build a SF-TH prototype in near future. Your models are really great to visualize the design.

😊

you could add automatic generation of mounting holes

You mean the holes for fixing the drivers? like in attached image?

I think it would not be hard, but it will increase model complexity and it would require 3 cells as input, hole diameter, placement diameter and quantity, there are some models that they don't have this amount of cells available anymore considering I'd like to keep all spreadsheet cell fit in a single screen. It's something I will think for the future. Maybe it could be two separated spreadsheets, one focused on hornresp and other focused on construction.

Thanks for the proposal. It became almost a custom solution for you and I'm happy to incorporate your suggestions.

Yes, exactly. A second construction related sheet would be a good idea. For the mounting holes, they could be made in 3D to allow tee nuts recess or the threaded inserts with a flange. Just ideas coming from my usual workflow🙂 Right now, I need to finish my 15" BR sub and then I will start with the 8" TH.

Lordsansui, your work inspired me to look a bit more into FreeCAD. I have set the ultimate goal for myself to create a fully parametric dual flare MEH model as a source of 3D models of the boards to be cut on a CNC.

This in itself is way over the top for me, but I am sure it is doable and hopefully I will be able to learn more FreeCAD in the process. The ideal thing would be to import values from a set of Hornresp records, which would define the geometry of the horn.

Do you think this is doable also for your models? For example, you will create a TH design in Hornresp. Then, you would choose the folding style file, import the Hornresp record and get your corresponding 3D model. Since you are calculating now the Hornresp input from the actual dimensions, backwards computation given the mechanical constraints should be possible as well, am I right?

My first milestone would be a single flare conical horn which can be modelled as OD, with a square (or rectangular) throat.
