To look at the open loop distortion spectrum was for me the ectrifying part in Nelson's owner manual....!

Up to now I did it only in the closed loop status...anybody informed enough to explain possible advantages to do it in Nelson's way, Mr. Pass?

😀😀😀

Had anyone using sounds card with appropriate sw been able to show the residual signal like what Nelson did using his distortion analyzer. I haven't found any suitable sw that will do it.

Most soundcards will perform an FFT on the signal and that gives the display of the fundamental peak and the lesser harmonic peaks shown over the entire frequency spectrum. To show the distortion residual it's necessary to have either an audio precision, audio prisim, or some type of older distortion analyzer. I'm not sure if any soundcard software has a display of the residual.

In your scope, Channel 1 is input side, and channel 2 should go like after an L pad to attenuate ~30db from the output (or whatever the gain of the amp is), and then use the scope's ability to show the difference between the two channels.
