If only there was a small, portable, computer you could carry in your pocket…
Problem is simple.... I'm going with tablet and phone... coming back with a humongous laptop and test hardware. You ever tried to carry test hardware and a JTAG debugger in an airplane? Oh wait.... you fly the airplane. Most of us are just passengers in the back of the bus.
I recently rehosted a number of machines on my LAN. My passwords, emails, docs are all on shared the NAS, not in local storage.. and one of my tablets died so I had to get a new one and have not fully upgraded all the passwords to all the sites -including DIY and the store.
The single most complicated thing I'm carrying is the USB OTG cable and the DAC.... I can do Tidal and do Webmail. Will have to buy the beer there. I don't plan on browsing the web... I will be busy.
It's not so simple, see? My fully realized network is quite complex and not quite designed to be fully portable. I normally just don't need it since I've been working from home now for five years. And because I'm extremely cognizant of privacy I avoid the Clouds and anything Apple.
Computers, network, big amps, liquor cabinet, cigars, all within a few steps of my chair. No need to make it all portable. No need to take this beautiful 35" Ultra Wide curved display with me.
Only email is partly portable as my personal mail server is on the Internet, but the 27 years of emails are safely stored in my local LAN.
I had my first laptop in 94.... yep, 1994.... so I sort of know these things. And so on....
BTW- I've done R&D on those SOCs that populate those "small portable computers" you address.

@tonyEE, I'll also be busy at noon PST on Monday (onboard a plane testing an In Flight Entertainment System), however, I suspect there are enough in stock to last for most of us "in the know" for at lease a couple days. However, if you need someone to surrogate buy both kits for ya, I'm offering up that option up. I'll just have to let my dad know what the internet is and convince him using a credit card online is pretty darn safe on diyaudiostore.com. I'm making fun of course, but...I'm also serious Tony. You won't miss out. The offer to buy a set of kits (essential and completion kits) for you is serious. I can make it happen if needed.

Thanks... I made a point of writing up the password for DIY Audio.... so hopefully I should be able to use my tablet in the evening.
Testing IFE.... interesting... in the late 90s I worked for two companies doing the first IP based IFE systems. At one point, I discovered that the All PA keyline spec from Boeing was wrong... the specs for the CSS and the IFE were backwards... so if the pilot grabbed the cabin phone the IFE would be enabled, and viceversa..
Those were fun times.
Like the time the IFE kept shutting down in a demo flight for Air France mid Atlantic...
Thanks again.

Well, that scenario you bring up for IFE is one we are testing for sure 🙂 Hit me up via PM if you want to take me up on the offer. It will take a little coordination, however not hard to make happen. I'm assuming the kits will be limited to one per person per month. I plan on buying one full set (essential and completion) on Monday.

I hope everyone is ready for the "Marvelous F5m Match", where we'll all be clamering over each other trying to get the newest kit for Greedy Boyz like us. I, for one, have set multiple alarms leading up to noon PST. I've also increased the bias on my internet browser throughput, and bumped the voltage rail up on my mouse from 5V to 6V to be sure the "buy now" clicks have a little more power behind them. Good luck to all in the battle royal. We're all counting on ya!
I am a veteran to these purchases. I worked retail in the 80's during the cabbage patch kids

lol! I had an idiot friend who spent thousands on beanie babies when we were in high school, thought he was going to make a fortune, just ended up a collector of stuffed animals.I am a veteran to these purchases. I worked retail in the 80's during the cabbage patch kids

I hope they have a purchase limit or else someone will buy them all and have a big pile next to their beanie baby collection..

Said to be 100 sets.
Darn! – I have a ping of at least 250ms to the American Westcoast – You’ll have a head start… 🏃♀️__👨🦽I've also increased the bias on my internet browser throughput, and bumped the voltage rail up on my mouse from 5V to 6V to be sure the "buy now" clicks have a little more power behind them.

If everything goes according to plan, the F5M essentials and completion kits should become available here at the turn of the hour:
