Bksabath:
I am using the "Visual Analyzer" from Visual Analyser 2011 XE. It is free, and runs using Linux/Wine (as well as Windows, and OSX/Wine).
Loopback test using balanced TRS patch cables produces virtually no AC hum. The 60Hz levels (in USA) and 60 Hz harmonics are at about -120dB, only slightly higher that the overall noise floor.
Loopback test using TRS to RCA to RCA to TRS, produces only slightly higher hum levels.
Here is info on TRS to RCA wiring: How to Wire an XLR to an RCA Connector. I prefer the 1st (top) wiring techniques, which uses balanced cable and connected ring to sleeve (ground) at the RCA connector. To build these, cut an 8 or 10 foot balanced TRS patch cable in half, and attach RCA connectors as shown.

Apologies in advance if I wont feed back shortley
Another 60 hours nights week at work.
So most of the days will be spent re-discovering my record collection.
Manage to play one and half side of Joy Division in Memoriam and can't stop earing things that where not there before.

regarding spks
I meant on old school variety - Tannoy , Altec , old ( not KW range modern ones ) JBL , Goodmans etc
anything with light and big cones , where bass is 12 or 15" , main driver is at least 8"
I didn't said that you must buy them - just that my ears like mating Papamps with proper telephone range speakers
.......... so - it's worth try them with this breed ....

Gone fearless today
Neighbours out
Girlfriend going shopping time to play the heavy stuff.
Just got rid of the Akay SS1
Just 5 meters of cables between F5 and Phono stage.
No pots not a single capacitor on the signal pat just the F5 connected to the mains
The Phono stage works on batteries.
Once warmed up (if 52 C on the body of the mosfet is worm?)
Time for my loudest record on the spinner
Black Sabbath Black Sabbath the original version (vertigo VO 6 847 903 VTY)
This as far as I know is the loudest record around.
Peak out 6 volts (5.987) with the current gain on the Phono stage I will need to change a couple of resistors to go up a bit as I am looking for 8 volts peak (the level at witch things where starting to be uncomfortable with my old Amp)
Only little to say it is a different record from before loads of details not eared before.
The F5 is fast attack and decay is superb the Polk have a totally different character no more Pum pum drums booooming.
Next on Ravel Bolero (Decca SXL 6065) with out the twiddling of the volume pot (there isn’t one)
Not to impressed by this track I have eared much beter on less fuzzy pressing there is very little information on this Vinyl in regard to where the recording was taken and my impression is just a poor master as the next track is much beter
Dukas the Sorcerer's Apprentice big orchestras may not be the ideal cup of tea for the F5 but this track was really enjoyable to listen to.
I was going to play a bit of Ludwig Van Mahler and Racmaninow but she is back
So plenty more another time.

Dear Bksabath...
Loudest record?
Highest average level?
Most Dynamic?
Well anyhow, there are some 45rpm EPs and some 33 EPs cut much hotter...
Find urself an original pressing of the Stones Under Cover Of The Night, EP... now THAT is cut hot! It will melt ur speakers...
Speaking of which, listen old boy, time to ditch those Polk thingies of yours and roll ur own with some decent parts and a real set of drivers! 😀
Then call back...

Neighbors?
We don't need no steenkin' neighbors! 😀
Hmmm... maybe a line source of Lowthers to get the sensitivity WAY up... yeah... sure.
I forgot ur in Ye Olde Brittan... out here in the States, you call it "the colonies", we all have massive mansions (you call them manors) with gigantic high fidelity systems. No restrictions on size or loudness whatsoever! You blokes have that little BBC monitor thingie, and those teeny tiny Tannoy Westminster boxes. Very polite stuff.
If they can't hear the bass at least 1/4miles away, it's too small... 😀
If the hedgehogs and moles are not all migrating away...

old school variety - Tannoy , Altec , old JBL
I no longer have the Altec M500's, but I do have real nice
pairs of JBL L300's and Tannoy HPD 15" coaxials, all with
new crossover networks.
😎😎😎
We send in 240v, and split it in half for the natives...
Those amongst us who are "skilled in the art" take that 240vac direct in the arm... no no wait, that's not it... we dump it into a massive iso tranny and output 120v-0-120v isolated from the ills of the outer world, and quite stiff to boot - sort of like electric viagra?
Some others amongst us then make/use 60-0-60, so called "balanced AC"... shocking really!
Regardless the aim is to make the Eff phyve sound as good as two fets and one Mosfetter can... ok mate?

Passive or B5 type crossovers? I am struggling to get the right crossover for my Altec HF and 515Bs to drive with F5s. I tried the Behringer 2496 but not good enough for F5s.
Listening Impression update
F5 still plyying away but now with 32 V rails (still warming up since change)
Not gone totaly mental with Bias set at 3 A rail
On the Silver spinner Pavlov's Dogs Pampered Menial (no Lp for this which is a bit of a bummer but I am looking for it.)
Sound seems to be even beter with more detail and dinamics.
Just got to wait for next door to get out before I can realy play.

Passive or B5 type crossovers?
For amplifier evaluations we use passive crossovers, as 95+% of customers
will be using just one amp.
