ever heard these two in direct comparison , both in class A ?
No, I never have, that's why I'd be interested to know your opinion - if you have heard them ?
Sure, but you will probably want something like the LSK-pre http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/group-buys/248957-jumas-lsk-preamp-smd-version.html or Curly-F4 http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/pass-labs/250205-curly-f4.html as a voltage gain stage.
Would mini F4 with sk2013/313 make sense as headphone amp?
D
it really depends of source and can's impedance (read - swing demands)
I'm pretty sure that I would go nutz with my old'n'trusty 270 Studio with 2V RMS

Perhaps just put a follower after the Jfets... Maybe you could use the BA-3 front end PCB and flip a couple parts around to make gain in the front and a follower output...
I built F4 as a headphone amplifier with only one pair FETs(IRPF) I can recommend this, thoug I sold this amplifier. The new owner is owerwhelmed of its qualities.

I build my HP amp per post 3026 - used 4 F4 boards so I could have a balanced config - later added transformer -see post 3465
Sounds great -easily drives my HiFiMan 500s
best

Zen Mod,
Simlics bypassed useing Wima MKC.
Changed the sound of the F4 into something very listenable. 😀
Only question now is how they suit the F6.
The F4 soundstage is quite a bit more larger and enwrapping than the F6, which stays more between the speakers - so I'm wondering if the Simlic's and Wima's are responsable for that... I guess I'll just have to try and see...

F6 to drive F4
I was just re-reading Nelson's F4 manual specifically with regard to "flea amps" used with F4
My question - Could I use my balanced F6 to drive a balanced crippled F4?
Basically I want to do the experiment to see if this puts more kick in the bass.
Thanks
Bob

better wait for Buzz's Funny pre , most probably having same character
waste of F6 to drive F4 ..... how to put it - more blurring then adding muscles

Hey dudes. long thread but I made it through. I have a query;
I have a mid horn, 103dB and treble 110dB. I will be listening from less than 3m. Processing done by a MiniDSP with 2v SE, 4v SE or 8v BAL.
I've concluded that 8v will give me a satisfactory SPL when 'cranking' the DSP to 0dBFS, and I want to optimise my gain structure for the sake of the noise floor.
Here's the q: Of all these frontend options, which would accept the ~12v p-p of my 8vRMS BAL input? And then, to further complicate things, which might also allow me 7dB of gain for the less sensitive mids? I don't require both horns to have the same amps, and in fact I look forward to playing around with the freedom of very low power needs.
I have been thinking of the BA-1, with reduced gain, but have no knowledge of whether it could handle such a large input. Maybe just an opamp BAL-SE into the crippled F4? I understand how to run a stereo F4 balanced, but I'm not convinced of it's CMRR compared to a balanced buffer/gain stage, and with 110dB/w/m in the near field I'm concerned @_@
Thoughts?

Both can operate at only 6 or 0 dB gain? Just read the BA3B thread. Looks good. Any comment on the BA-1 FE at unity gain?
I investigated the pumpkin years back.

Are you looking for a fight bubba? I am just a couple of hours away from finishing mine!

at 0db , look for buffer , not gain stage strangled with overall NFB

What is it in these preamps and buffers that I need to look for to judge that they can handle the 8v signal? Could, say, an Aleph J handle it? Why?
...... Could, say, an Aleph J handle it? ......
J will go berserk with 8V ( any kind) on input
