Explendid amplifier designed by Michael Bittner, our MikeB

Hi <ike,
I was talking about the capacitor in the feedback path! :devilr: It's basically in the signal path just as much as the input capacitor. That's one reason I'd like to see the impedances increased.

Either that or a DC servo (output filtered by Wima - of course!!).

HI
I use at the signal entrance a 4.7Mf BP Black Gate capacitor .
Any comment ? I finished the amplifier but for the 10 , 300, 100 Pf capacitors I used ceramic because I only had those at hand .
Now I ordered silver mica to replace those parts so after I can do some real tests .
You guys now use 2SK170 jet or transistor at the input ?
Please let me know . I working on so many project I couldn't read all the articles.
When first I hook up the amplifier even with those ceramic capacitors the sound was very promising . Each channel has own power supply a transformer and 4pc 10 000Mf capacitor .
I used exotic resistors , Panasonic capacitors and Wima 0.1Mf .
I hook up with Cardas Wire but I just find out Cardas not always the best choice .
I made a M Hiraga amp , when I tested at first it sounded OK , after I put it together in the enclosure and I used Cardas Wire it sound terrible . The bass end dynamic disappeared .I'm not 100% because the wire but only I replaced the wire after the test .
Did somebody tried to use Cardas wire with these amp , some other project or any experience with ??
Regards

Hi Gaborbela !
I can't give any comment on the Black gate caps, why should i use them as input cap, if i have access to the nice film caps ? These are still elyts...

I have no idea if someone else tried the sk170, they sound really nice. But you can use them only if your supply voltage is not bigger than 36v.

About exotic resistors, i am not convinced that they really improve things, i use standard metallic film resistors.
Mica caps (or styroflex, film caps) instead of ceramics seem a good choice.

About speaker cables, i can definitely confirm that they can cause problems. I use Kimber 4TC, a very good cable i think.
But, on the combination Epos es12 + MF-A1X, they are a disaster, all trebles distorted, the sound is fine again if i use standard 4mm oehlbach cable. On other combinaions the Kimber cable really rocks !
I had no problems yet with symasym and different speakers / cables.

I don't mean to be "contra", but what's this fuss about cables? About
Cardas and Kimber cables? I know, for some people I'm going to be a
word that I can't define, but defies all the concepts of high definition
cables, come on guys, is still out there the concept cables, the ones
that perform miracles?
I use in my amplifiers whatever I have on hand, sometimes simple wire
that defy all the purists of the cables, and my amplifiers sound really good all the times.
Stop that b***s**** about cables, non sense concepts for whom
money is no object.... use that money in other good components,
like capacitors and resistors....

Please, attention, I'm talking about interconnect cables, even though\
I also have some reservations about speaker cables..... I always use
the ones I made long time ago, stranded cables, home made, that
resulted in absolute winners.

John, i absolutely understand your concern. I was thinking like you, me beeing curious, i wanted to know and bought the Kimber cable, which is not too expensive.
So, i replaced my old cables with the Kimber ones and played music. My reaction: Wow, oops, what is going on here ? The difference was way above subtile, better defined bass and extremely cleared up trebles.
Don't forget, i was sceptical and non-believing, but this experience was extreme.

My old cables were no cheap junk, they were Oehlbach 4mm.
The story about speaker cables is not really :bs:

I don't know Mike, I still do not believe it, if you are using what you can call zip cord, the one that connects a lamp to the mains I can agree
with you when comparing with other more sofisticated cable. But
if you told me there is a big difference between a decent cable like the
one I have and Kimber or other esoteric cable (big bucks), I'm sorry
but I can't buy it. I had a chance to install expensive cables on my
system from a friend of mine (we had our disagreements over that
issue) and we both came to the same conclusion, that between that
cable of his (I can't remember what the brand was) and my hand made
cable, if there is a difference that was in favor of mine.

So, the mith of cables there is quite sometime that I gave up about it.

Hi John, as Al pointed out, let's not start the speaker cable debate here...
But let me state one thing, there are good cables and there are expensive cables. 2 worlds. Some of the expensive cables are worth nothing.
Have a look: http://www.kimber.com/Products/LoudSpeakerCables/default.aspx
I have the 4TC. It's their geometry that makes them special. The same technique is used for high speed network cables.
