Hola hermano.
Thanks for "all then sensitive persons..." (post 188).
I read attentively this thread. I also plan to build a amp with 120-150 W 8 ohms.

PCB Attempt
I have attempted a PCB for symasym5. Untested.
It's my first amp PCP, so I'm not sure if the layout is any good.
Some points to note:
Not shown are two jumpers (holes are there):
- One for supplying the ground to the VAS and 330pf/47K load.
- Connection between high and low side outputs.
I am thinking of using a double-sided PCB, and making the top side a big ground plane with channels cut to implement the above two links. Not sure if I need to isolate the gound for the VAS stage or not, but feel that I don't want decoupling noise on it - therefore seperate. I would connect the ground-plane to the de-coupling grounds (solder legs both sides, or use vias) but probably not to the signal grounds. I think that a, say 3mm, drill would be OK for removing copper from the ground-plane where component leads should not connect.
Would welcome any feedback.
Hans.

I see that the output caps are returned to the wrong spot. Anything else?
edit: the redundant led on the lower right is missing a series resistor, besides being backward.
Guillermo,Htrinkle and SY, thank you because you are following with attention

Re: PCB Attempt
Hi htrinkle, i will take a close look to your PCB this evening.
I see that you use eagle for layout, i could upload my eagle-files,
but they are for syamsym4 and contain a confusing part, i had
no 2n5401/mpsa models, so used bc546/556 throughout, but
this way they are all mirrored. Because of that i had not uploaded
this layout, it does confuse... (lazy me...)
With my first PCBs i made some heavy mistakes with grounding,
resulting in heavy hum...
BTW, how do you transfer the layout to the board ?
I could send you 1200dpi-bitmap for transfer...

Hi Hans !
I tried to check your PCB, but have real trouble reading it...
It's a bit to dense... But i saw no problem.
I attached a shot out of eagle, showing symasym4, the one i used
for my boards that i showed earlier. Are you interested ?
Some of the traces could be thicker, but this pcb plays without any
problems, and should not take long for me to adapt to symasym5.
The pcb-size is 10*8cm.

Michael, i promissed to a forum friend, the Symassym4 or 5 modified to 250 watts RMS
over 8 ohms..... considering the voltage used, that can be dangerous to humans, i think he can accept 250 or a little bit more over 4 ohms too.
But i am afraid that you have not time enougth to do that for us...so.... let this clear, if will make or not, because i will develop a Sony, will adapt, convert and test, T-O-D-A-Y, to offer to forum guys..... the unit will be simple and powerfull, awfull to treble, terrible to voices, and wonderfull to sub woofer.
Yeah!..i know in advance that you are working hard, Saturday and Sundays included, sleeping in your Office and inside a terrible dead line pression...so...asking you very clearly...will do?

Carlos

Yeah Bengt, if you miss brazil, imagine your wife.... had you visit her family last
year?.... so you kicked me...no problem, you may be shy... no problem.
It's terrible cold now a days here.... we are in the terrible winter peak here...gray days... raining 1 hour each day, winds are violent, around 50 km per hour all the day, producing noise througth the windows, temperature down to 18 degrées and we fell alike 8 degrées because of the wind removing heat from our bodies...aaaagh!..... good only to sleep, but never alone....cold winter need company.
I know, this is hot for you...you may remove shirt and feel very confortable..... you may be adapted to your environment.
I am dreaming with sunny days again, people swiming in front of my house...gray days are too much sad.
Skoll is a good beer, i prefer the Antarctica, as you may prefer too... but you have a wonderfull representative of my country... our womans thinks husband are something alike Kings!... they really have enormous care with us.... this is the reason we go smilling all life long....
Now early morning here, and my wife already stand up asking me what i want to eat...hehe...wonderfull, in this home, i am the frite potatoes king, i am in the first, second, third, fourth and fifth place... very interesting....very, very interesting...they are old fashioned woman...we are the Majesty.... Gooooooood!
Good to have news from you..... already forgived.... arrived here without call me....you....you....you...... no problem.
I made some experiences yesterday.... constructed one amplifier, and again and again i perceived that we have to optimize the components, voltages and currents, there are the rigth voltage, the rigth current and the right components to good sonics.... and every change will transform a beautifull amplifier in a CRAB (hehe...scaping from censors)....CRAB! quality ((have to understand, as some words cannot be said here...and my language is not English (when convenient to me)...so i wrote wrong many times))....ahahahahha!
regards Bengt...I will have an Antartica today..I will have a beer in you place...cheers Bengt!

Symasym5 - Board files
Hi !
Thanks to Greg for making the packages to the 2n5401/5551/mpsa18 !
I changed the layout to symasym5 and fixed a minor issue...
So here are the boardfiles for eagle v4.15, the layout should work
without any problems, it's based on symasym4, the next days i will
make a test-etching to verify complete functionality.
Have fun !
Mike

Hey Mike!...is this one you promissed send to me, for free, next August thirty third
Exactly at twenty fifth hour.
Life is interesting, the Mercedez without use, stopped in the garage, a Mitsubishi Eclipse used for your dog to sleep inside, money under the bed cushion...and so fast to send me one Euro board!
Life is not fair...grumpf!...grrrrrr!...ahahahaha!
No problems Miky, big Charlie loves you as an uncle can love you...keep your board....you already punished, so big money and not time to spend.

Carlos

I'll use the eagle files you provided - I think its better than mine, and tested.
I use toner transfer to etch my boards. Not perfect, but I found that it works good enough.
Thanks again,
Hans

Thank you Anatech, a friend sent me pictures, and i use one piece of that image
Was very nice the pictures i have received from him...i received together some warm friendship too... and this was great.
I like to change my avatars...my taste was that they could change each minute.

Hi Mike,
the grounds of the 100nF blocking caps C16 and C17 should be tied together on the shortest possible way, otherwise they are useless.
A via should not handle more than 1 amp. In this way I'd suggest to extend the via diameters so you can use solid core wires for the EAGLE top layer

Hi bocka !
I forgot to mention, the "upper layer" are wire jumpers, so the vias
are just pads. About the caps, i will check, i am at work now and can't
have a look to the files...
It's just that eagle seemed not very cooperative with wires, so i
misused the upperlayer for that. The PCB is still singlesided.
