I would say no, that tweeter from Scan-Speak stores more energy below 2kHz and that will be heard as a colouration.Well what I am really asking is would there be a sonic difference. I did read the review before you posted it and of course he loved it. However, could a tweeter 1/3 the price compete with the Textreme? The ScanSpeak 3004/6660 is on sale right now for $235
I have tried a couple of Scan-Speak tweeters with that same back and damping, and they sound a bit coloured. I do not favour it.
In an effort to be able to reach the lowest possible frequency response 27TAC/GB also stores some energy.
I would say that TW29TXN-B have a slight edge in performance, and also benefits from the shallow waveguide of 3-4 mm that will help to reduce diffraction.
I would not rule out 27TBFC/G and 27TBC/G from Seas. If you add a 3mm shallow wave guide to those drivers (100mm outside diameter) like TW29TXN-B have you will be surprised how good they perform regardsless of price. Both have less stored energy than 27TAC/GB or any of the Scan-speaks.
Linearity of distortion is important and 3rd harmonic needs to be 10dB lower than 2nd in all registers.
If not, you will hear some sharpness and edge. TW29TXN-B is the best I have seen regarding linearity in distortion in combination of very low distortion.
I would go with that tweeter if cost is no object and Seas 27TBC/G on a budget.
Yes, I use the 27TBC in a waveguide Visaton WG148R. The result is awesome. Use it starting at 2kHz.I would not rule out 27TBFC/G and 27TBC/G from Seas. Thank you @flex2 for your suggestion. I did some research and that is definitely an awesome driver. The only question is does the protective wire over the dome protrude? The grill cloth on my speaker is like a sock stretched around the cabinet (see pic). I need a driver with a flat profile where the dome doesn't protrude. I looked at the photo of the driver side view and it doesn't look like it protrudes but I cant be sure.

Out of this picture it seems to extend approx 1 mm above the front face.

I can deal with 1mm, thats nothing, the Seas protrudes slightly as well you may even see it in the pic
So I am running these with Conrad Johnson Premiere 12 tube amps. Wondering if I should go with 8 ohm or 4 ohm version.
I ordered the caps today. I'll post again after installed. Ive read that they need some run inBeing I've used this tweeter twice, I can say with certainty, you need to try ASC X387 or X386 poly in oil caps. RS Components stocks the widest collection I've found.
