Would I be completely crazy to try and build something based on this design, only have them so that they lie flat, say on a desk, and have the driver raised out and aimed 90 degrees down, so as to aim horizontally? Possibly with a horn too? Would the extra length between the driver and where the driver would normally be in these designs, along something like a plumbing pipe, effect the tuning?
They start to get rather large. I am thinking 42-48" which, when you build it, is pretty close to massive. The 36" ones I have seem really large.
Didn't someone already do a two-way in this thread? Embedded a tweeter in the baffle just above the main driver. Can't seem to find it right now, though.
Cheers.
If only they sounded better. The channel length is not long enough unfortunately. Big hump around 200 Hz or even higher.

Another option is a small coaxial auto sound speaker. There are also pro audio 5 inch drivers that have a coaxial horn and CD. They don't have much bass though.
I've not had luck the car coax's. Maybe they're just lousy sounding to begin with, not sure, but they are a good idea.
I seem to recall it was a pretty shallow tweeter mounted on an MDF or ply baffle, that protruded just slightly into one of the channels of the cornu. I'll look through the thread and see if I can find it.
Actually, it was a foamcore baffle. Post 1373:

I am taking the 36"ers to planet10's annual fest. I am looking forward to hearing (and seeing) peoples reaction to them.
Back in a couple days, gotta ferry to catch.
Cheers.

That sounds like a lot of fun Cal. Tell DUG from Toronto I said hi, he said he is going - he will be showcasing his custom TPA3116D2 class D amps which sound fantastic and are the ideal complement to most fullrange drivers.
