Nothing wrong with the other two either ( I love Messi) but IMO, it's a bad sign for Greeks. Sharing the same colors and banking problems. Association of ideas maybe, or maybe not.

Spain is in a privileged position over the rest of Europe ... in football, ofcourse.

Only association of ideas ... maybe, or maybe not.😀

Spain is full of crooks, we will go down eventually. Viva la vida!

BTW, I have nothing against Argentinians; I had an Argentinian gf, I love the way they talk, etc. Too bad the country is full of crooks too. Haha.

Congratulations to Portugal..great to see Ronaldo finally break out! Should make for some very entertaining football in the Final 8.

As for my Oranje...how typically defeatist and un-inspired! And our coaching was the worst. In contrast the Russians under Advocaat,. who played hard to the very end with dynamic, creative and determined football. Had the Dutch goaltender not played strongly Portugal would have won 6-1.

And kudos to the Danes...who also showed no quit against the Germans! Well-played! You can return to Copenhagen knowing you did not play poorly in any game!

Any thoughts about tomorrow's matches lads?

Wouldn't it be nice if Croatia beats Spain, and Italy chops up Ireland ?

(Johannesburg 2010)

Well Jacco....the Croats played valiantly...as they always do...and even Ireland made more of an attempt to fight than the Oranje...

Been reading the UK press reports on Holland's demise...which they believe commenced at the World Cup in 2010 in that thuggish display of football against Spain in the final.

I actually felt it a little further back when Holland was playing Croatia for 3rd place overall at the 1998 at the World Cup...the Oranje simply didn't show up, as if playing for pride was not enough...as opposed to the Croats..who viewed 3rd place as still worthy of fighting for...

Any predictions for Group D matches tomorrow? Are the French and English going thru? or does the Ukraine have a last gasp left? And how will the pit-bull Rooney fare?

Congratulations to Sweden for tremendous resolve and spirit in winning over France. No small feat and a credit to the best football spirit of playing each game as if it meant something..I hope the Dutch😱 were watching...well coached...well-disciplined and able to finish when opportunity presented itself.

Kudos also to Ukraine for a tremendous match...the English were fortunate to escape with the win!

Now on to the Quarter Finals.

My predictions:

Portugal over the Czech Republic 2-1 (Now that Ronaldo has some confidence the entire team will be energized. The Czech side can be deadly up front but the Portuguese defence is strong)

Germany over Greece 3-1 (The Greeks have been fortunate thus far but the Deutchlanders are superbly coached and have great depth and resilience. They will be eager to avenge their Euro 2004 loss to the Greeks)

Italy over England 2-1 (Rooney or no Rooney the Englanders will not be able to match the creativity coming from the Italian backfield...the Azzurrri look relaxed, confident and creative this year)

Spain over France 2-0 (Torres is looking strong and with the brilliant and unflappable coaching of Vicente del Bosque González they always have the equivalent of a 12th man on the pitch. France is young and inexperienced and will develop but not at the expense of the Spaniards)

No matter what we are in store for some extraordinary football in this round!

So has Ronaldo finally found his form? If so, the next game will really test that theory and his own determination to break through...which of the next quarter final matches determine who they face next?

The Czechs made a game of it but the result was never in doubt IMO...

Predictions for tomorrow's contest anyone?

Portugal will play the winner of the France v Spain match ie Spain.

That would be grudge match time like Germany - Holland matches are or Germany - England matches are for the english (but not for the germans, germans don't really care about England).

The winner of tonights Germany - Greece match will play the winner of the England - Italy match ie Italy. I'm looking forward to Germany - Italy as those tend to be good games!

Germany-Greece might be a bit grudgy given the financial-political situation in Europe.
As some english coach once said: "Some think football is a matter of life and death. Let me assure you that it is far more important than that!".
