Eton with Excel

I have a pair of the paper cone 8" Excels. They are not the easiest drivers to work with, although probably easier than the mags. I found the published specs to be pretty close. Take a good look at the bumps in the response and see if you would feel comfortable dealing with them.

Yeah you are right JohnL, there are some bumps in the plots that need some hard work to be done. However I am not the one that I will be building the speakers of my own. I just gather information for helping an experienced person (friend of mine) in selecting the best drives to suit my needs.

How about Excel 8" Sound Quality? Can they go down to 200hz with ease? Are they less sensitive than factory indication? Somewhere in the 87-88db maybe?

I came down to this conclusion because of the measurements of M15CH001 of Hobbyhifi 87,5db vs 90db <---Seas Excel datasheet.

I don't have the capacity to test for exact efficiency, but I can tell you I am using a pair together with a 98 db efficient ribbon and the ribbon needs no padding. Actually, I am using an L-R contour filter on the woofers. The sound quality is excellent, once the humps are addressed, you get a nice strong low disortion sound from them. Honestly, probably the best 8" I have ever heard (but I have not heard the excel mags).
