Yes, if the Marantz 1070 is in working condition, it is worth a try.
Your thinking about the recording quality being suspect is not out of place; many rock recordings are far from perfect.
However, certain topologies, especially single ended tube circuits have higher level of harmonic distortion and intermodulation distortion, though a lot of it can be the more benign second harmonic distortion. On simpler music these amps paired with single wide-band driver speakers can sound special, but more demanding music, not so much.
Trying out another amp will give you more insight.
You can also test the track(s) with a pair of good quality headphones?
Speakers with difficult impedance curves and lower efficiency will result in more clipping of amplifiers (specially ones with lower power output).

Cipping has to do with trying to make a loudspeaker play louder but it running out.
It can be seen on a scope, but i leared early what it sounded like, and a trained human can detect the onset before it shows on the scope.
If your loudspeake ris more sensitive then you can get away with less power so speaker design has an affect in that sense.

Worth noting that this is at levels near maximum, at the millwatt level this more often play at distotion of all kinds can be very low. There is no crossover notch. However, certain topologies, especially single ended tube circuits have higher level of harmonic distortion and intermodulation distortion,

Hence why I'm insisting on the A12.2p. Their sensitivity of 92db makes them an easy push for my SEP and, I might be wrong with this, in a DCR makes them more efficient. I wish I had the time to build the DCR A12.2p now.
91 dB real world. Only a dB more sensitive than your A10p. But that and the ability to move air could be just enuff… or not.

A back loaded box of any kind (other than a reactance-annulled horn, which is not a practical proposition) cannot increase the overall efficiency of a drive unit; that ultimately is what it is. Back loaded boxes only operate over a relatively narrow BW in the low frequency region. A double chamber reflex (strictly speaking, these are double-chamber vented) has two tuning frequencies, the second being just under an octave above the lower. Because of that it provides a bit more practical headroom / dynamic range than a single-chamber design of the same lower Fb. From there, realistically the next step is a suitably sized bass horn that will load the driver over a still wider LF range, but enclosure size grows quickly.
Hello all...
Juliet on it`s way😉
Slowly moving to this new box for my Alp12P. Was not fully satisfied with the old small box, - and then made a super OpenBaffle with Betsy, Eminence and Aurum Cantus AMT. Now i think about later in life when and if I move to a smaller place in my older days😳. And maybe the Juliet can give a fuller sound more in the line with my OpenBaffle. I will finish the Juliet speakers late January.👍

Keeps us posted on your build. Your feedback will benefit the community.
Hi....
Here is my old set-up. the old Alp12P in a kind of Golden Ratio box (my try 😏), which was no sucsess.. But anyway the GoldenRatio Alp12P got plenty loud enough in this room. My homemade mono SIT-amplifier which is around 7-8 watt and an impedance around 8 ohm (calculated) is more than enough. They also drove my FHXL with Alp10.2 to fairly satifactory level. The SIT amplifier is to my understanding both Voltage and Current output amp.
I`ll be looking forward to the building of Juliet to compare tthe different cabinets.

Hi bianchi.
The building is going fairly according to schedule👍. Friday I was routing most of the 2nd speaker - and will glue them in a the course of the week. But family things are slowing me somewhat at times. And I am standing outside under a roof when using the router,, because of lack of a decent place inside, And in 2-6 degree Celcius and snowing at times.........
And since I use pine - I use joints that will keep its poisture for a long time - its more time consuming. Later today I will give you more pictures from the assembling.😎

Hi again.
Here is a clue to the ongoing building. Some smalll routing/sawing and the glueing. Will make it a good box - so takeing good care in all cuts. But there is a birthday party this week which will delay my progress - but at 68 years old and off from work - there is no hurry. But I promise I will test the system BEFORE I do the outside makeup (oil, varnish or whatever)🤓

Hi all.
Some delays in my building. Family affairs you can call it . Next week I can guess I will be finished to test the result. Except for the finishing touch...
Sorry 🙂👍😎

Hi mp9 aand everyone
I was hoping to be finished tomorrow or sunday - but I had to step in and support my daughter with a sick child. So my 68 year of age will have some rest and then back to the finishing touch. Not much work left now - the back with ports and then some stuffing. the bracing I can do at a later tme. Also the outher finish will be done later. Looking forward to the testing of the Juliet from Scott 🤓 👍

Olav,
Hope your grandchild is better now. Take care all of you, and get some rest.
The boxes are looking good btw. 🙂

Hi to all🙂
Here are the first impression from my refitting of Aalp12.2P in the Twin Chamber Box. The finishing outer touch and Bracing will be done at a later time. Also new stand or support is on my to-do list. The building is done with sheets that are fixed in thickness and width. Front is 25 centimeter and sideplates is 30 centimeter. Then i used a router to make tracks so the sheets nearly were jointed together. Some simple math were needed to make the inner measuring accurate to Scottmoose original.
Yesterday I was finished and made a late night testing. I need some better internal wiring + remaking the old good cabel to the open baffle speaker (which today is connected straight ttto the OB). And that will lift sound somewhat more.
I used Willie Nelson - Across the Borderline (Don`t give up - What was it you wanted) as my test track, and Alexander Wollenweider - Book of roses - as my first late night testing. Both is very good recordings.
Sound Impression. I think it is very good. More full body sound and a fuller impact than my old smaller boxes. Ttthere must be said I have not aaaaaa complete seal on the back yet - some minor refitting I feel. The trebbble on the Juliet is nearly on par with the AMT (which is dipol and shimmering so clean - nearly electrostatic - but more tangible and toucchable). The AMT has a more seethrough character maybe. The Alp12 haas tthe same weightless quality aas the OB with AMT - but maybe a little boxy sound in comparrision.
Later today I will try a CD with diverse tones and testtrack to see how low the Juliet will reach in the bass region.
And one day when the house is empty I will bring them down to compare them to my Alp10.2 FHXL in the larger living room. I am more found of aa paper driver and the sound of Alp12.2 than the distinct metallic driver, but the bass from FHXL is so good......
By the way - My hearing at my age is still around 15 kHz 😳(but i will try that later also)😎
That`s all ffor now☕

Hi again.
Forgot to tell: My amplifier upstaaairs is a homemade Luminaria SIT preamp - Two Mono SIT Resistors L`Amp (Homemade A-class) - I use a Sony SuperAudio CD and a couple streamers . This combination had no problems to raaise the volume to satisfactory late night level. Todaaay i will give even more powe when listening to Melody Gardot`s - The Rain (fabulous track).
Downstaiirs I use a Harman Kardon HK980 - Solid state 😎
