The relationship between charge and terminal voltage on different battery types is quite well documented AFAIK. US semi company Benchmarq [sp?] who were bought out by TI, brought out a range of chips to enable accurate charging. By measuring the terminal voltage, you should be able to establish charge levels and then appropriate charging currents to full charge.
On an iPhone and I would imagine Samsung, this functionality is built into the phone chipset.
The real issue with batteries IMV is the quality is plain rotten on a lot of them. How often don’t you buy a replacement battery off Amazon because the original OEM battery has failed after years of good use only to have the new one fail after a year? Notorious are camera battery packs and Ryobi, Black and Decker etc third party batteries. I have a VAX floor scrubber and bought a second third party battery for it (£45). The VAX charger refused to charge it so I had to return it and get an OEM battery at about £15 more. I made sure I kept the receipt.

I should add that the terminal voltage on a rechargeable battery is highly temperature dependent. If you root around on the web, you'll find the terminal voltage vs temperature curves, so cell temperature has to be accurately measured to be able to charge correctly. Obviously, cheap replacement batteries won't have sensors in place to do this.

Galu uses Duracell Recharge Ultra (NiMH/2500mAh).
They hold a charge for 5 years - handy as I only use my DSLR infrequently.
And, the Pentax is NOT unspecified - you can see the model in the image I posted earlier.

That was precisely my situation at the time when graduating from a 35 mm film Pentax SLR. I had a collection of Pentax lenses including a compatible manual focus prime. A Pentax DSLR was obviously the most sensible and most cost effective choice of budget DSLR for me. I purchased mine, a clearance item, for a song from Currys.

A quick calculation reveals this to be a swingeing 13.7% rise. 137 is an interesting number, of course, the Fine Structure Constant.

I am now fully up to speed on the relation between SO(3) and SU(2), so this is progress.
Spinors are kinda mind-bending. Unitary means they sum to a circle radius One. And I keep seeing SQRT(1/2) = 0.707...

If the pics do look nice, it’s the Pentax and their lenses (with s Sigma 10-20mm 3.5 wide angle IIRC thrown in for good measure). There are some seriously good photographers on the forum - I’m just a happy snapper. Some of the pics on my Flickr account are with an iPhone.
Wife and I went out in the camper yesterday, looking forward to 5 days up in the Derbyshire hills but she decided to fall over the water butt and break her arm. Got out of A&E at 2 am The Scotland trip planed for September is now off.
