Does this explain what generates gravity?

Exciting events due on Sunday, 24th September. That's tomorrow!

What does this mean?

Asteroid Bennu Samples 5.jpg

AFAIK, Asteroid Bennu is considered the potentially worst impactor we have ever faced! It could hit us within a 100 years.

Could be worse than the one that wiped out the Dinosaurs! Not that I miss them. Horrible things.

I have no solution so far, but am thinking about it.

I remember commenting upon the Osiris-Rex probe 3 years ago as it grabbed a chunk of asteroid Bennu.

Interestingly, the name 'Bennu' was given to asteroid 101955 after being selected in a "Name That Asteroid" contest held by the University of Arizona.

Students at the University of Glasgow would have named it 'Asteroid McAsteriod Face! 😀

The Osiris-Rex capsule containing its precious 250 grams of Bennu rubble has now been transferred to a temporary clean room.

"One of the most important parts of a sample-return mission is we take 75% of that sample and we're going to lock it away for future generations, for people who haven't even been born yet to work in laboratories that don't exist today, using instrumentation we haven't even thought of yet,"
Nasa's director of planetary science, Lori Glaze, told BBC News.

As an Autistic and Mathematical person, I am watching these events with intense interest:

What am I expecting? The Beeb has a live feed:

More grey rocks, IMO.

Mere Moondust again! I always read Ma's copy of the Readers Digest.

Oh well.
Readers Digest: Once they get your name and address, they never let you go. I’m sure the CIA learned tracing techniques from them.

Turns out there were 5 people in the cleanroom securing the sample!

Osiris mothership still had 25% of it's fuel left after delivery. Thus has embarked on another asteroid hunt. This time a 6 year mission to another worrisome lump called Apophis:

This little horror is coming within 20,000 miles of us on Friday 13th. April 2029. Its orbit will change as a result of the encounter. Wiki has an animation.

It's all very interesting. I have found a brilliant website where NASA allows you to do all sorts of calculations and plot trajectories on these things, and there are loads of them.

https://cneos.jpl.nasa.gov/ca/

Solutions suggested to the problem include Atomic Weapons and a suggestion of painting one side of an asteroid white to use light pressure to deflect them, and to ramp up efforts for early detection.

I'm just amazed the calculations are so accurate, because there are all sorts of things going on with these unstable orbits.

This was about orbits calculations.
No need to look at astéroïdes; The caculation of the Moon orbit as done in the Ephemerides asks for near one hundred corrections. Yes 100, so as to guarantee accuracy for navigators using the Moon to determine their position.
May be obsoleted by GPS but very interesting in science and technology.
