Hi,
I purchased the THF-51S TokinSITs from ebay (seller: watanabetomoak) as suggested by Mr. Nelson Pass on the While they last...

Diyaudiostore says: Chassis and VFET-less kits will be available in batch 3, expected to ship in August 2021.

Are the THF51-S TokinSITs compatible with the VFET-less kits?
And rookie question, is the THF-51S Channel N or Channel P?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Not easily, I imagine. These kits are designed for the Sony VFETs. Mr Pass has mentioned (promised?) a different board set for the Tokin SITs. No real details on those yet.

In the meantime there are other options: ZenMod has a few iterations of boards (SissySIT, etc) that will use these transistors, as does Mr Rothacher (MoFo, IronAmp)

mine finished , works perfect at the start up , no noise at all ! compared to my beloved M2 , i would say that it sound more tubey and it merge pefectly with my PX4 Set amp i use for the highs. same liquid and gorgeous sound. the M2 keep his strenght , tight and a little more transparent
i will wait for all the big capacitors to burn a little before final judgment .

anyway here is another " tour de force" from our white druid.

thanks mr Neslon and Jason.. 🙂

Hi, Juanitox.

Looks great! Can you let us know what boutique parts you used?

It looks like maybe Nichicon KZ caps for the 1,000uF caps? The green ones are Nichicon ES?

I see the big 10,000 uF cap says Rubycon. Could it be a Blackgate?

Glad to hear your listening impressions. Sound wonderful.

nothing extraordinary on mine , panasonic film caps in place of Wima , Nichicon FG for power supply , Nichicon ES NP for the big 1000uf coupling cap . i have also change the stock Rubycon with a Big Elna 10000uf 63V ( only because i have it ) that i put under the card to have more place .

i will try later a 100uf film cap to bypass the output cap but i don't feel the need of it immediatly as the baby amp is getting better and better with time... 😀

Can someone confirm that bypassing the FE module and reversing the LS connections from what is recommended for this build would enable to retain "negative H2" while admittely losing though the absolute polarity?

Many thanks

Claude

Note: If the above is correct, I understand absolute polarity could be gained back with a source allowing polarity to be switched.

Would that be across R1//R2 ?

You don't need to answer... I will read up more...

EDIT: I think I found the why and how about the "numbers" on the Vfets in the 2016 article, that said, it doesn't tell me how to measure Ugs

If you look at this post 539: DIY Sony VFET Builders thread
It looks like the vgs can be measured across Z1.

Quote from article:
"This Gate DC value is set at 20 volts plus the Vgs value of the VFET, which ranges from 8 volts to 13 volts, and is adjusted by P1 to give +20 volts at the Source pin of the VFET."
