DIY Small Panel Projector

hmm, can anyone post links to where one could find a small panel screen that does 800x600... or 640x480.

I really don't like the other smaller resolutions like 528x249 and other weird sizes... 🙂

I bought an lcd panel and am making a large projector system... But i'm also curious where i coudl find small lcd panels that i could maybe use for other projects in the future.

thanks a bunch 🙂

Gunawan I sent email a few minutes ago.

Here's the link to a resource of SVGA panels that Gunawan posted day before yesterday. These are transmissive. Some VR's are reflective out there too! Be aware (cy-visor).

SVGA $650 VR glasses New! Rip'em apart and mount in your SP

Don't forget the Sony and Cannon SVGA VR glasses as well (both are model #700's). These have been mentioned several times on these few, humble pages.

I believe more resources will be marketed soon, keep an eye out.

I dont think i could afford that , plus if a few were to split the cost it wouldnt be possible as there is only one controller.

I just wish there was a nice 1.8" 640x480 panel, doh!! I have about $200 budget and i wish i could get an 800x600 for that, doh, doh, doh!!!

Cheers,

hehe trust me, since the link was posted, i've looked at that page many many many times 🙂 hehe

unfortunatly i'm hoping for only a panel that can 800x.... hell it can even do a simply 640x480 and i would be happy : D hehe

Just curious if anyone had any other links... 🙂
Or... anyone know where I/we could ask that would have more information. And then post it up here? 😀

a small panel projector looks pretty fun.
What panels do lcd projectors use? they are small panel, and are VGA/SVGA/etc... compatible. Where could we get one of those to use.

just a couple questions to get the mind flowing and brains thinking 🙂 hehe

ehh back to eating lunch for me...

In Search Of: Elusive LCD's

Those projectors use the 3 panel method. Using greyscale panels'. Still up in the 1-1.5k $ range. Then you have to make the optical platter, cutting up the RGB and then passing it through the panel's and then reconverge.
Very tedious and by that time you could have just gone out and purchased a used or new one.

I tried Epson for some of the one panel (and other's) full color's but, their site implicitly states that they are only available for large quantity purchase.

I don't think they want to offer them because it undermine's their projector market value. They're all (projector manufacture's) able to lock in that 1.5k $ minimum. They've all got the power to do that. People are still buying too. Offering at a lower cost doesn't make sense to them since they're more profitable this way.

I'm hoping some plant's in Malaysia or some more in Taiwan or China will produce them soon. As the machinery involved become's more common/cheaper and they try to take some of the big guy's cut. I would think that after 5 years of production of the small panel's that some other fledgling company's would give it a go. Maybe, a yakuza thing or something, ha-ha. Something, I can't put the finger on though.

Any thought's?

I have hit pay dirt

Been a while since i posted, I have started to build my projector it's pretty small about 6 inches high and 8 inches long I found a compact flouresent bulb at wal-mart that puts out 2700 lumens this is more than enough since i'm using a 4 or 5 or 8.4 inch lcd sreen.

I have found away to extend the ribbon cable or sometimes called Flat Flexible Cable(FFC) this is a way to get the driver board out the way. There is this company named Molex that makes FFC connectors, now my lcd sreen from www.partsexpress.com can be used in my projector. You can ask for samples at www.molex.com or you ask www.mouser.com to order them for you.

For people who want to use a 8.4, 9.4 or 10.4 lcd screen from a laptop i found a website that sells vga controller boards for a number of Toshiba laptops all of the boards are $39.95 they dont give any specificatoins and I dont know if we can use them or not. They sell the lcd srceen to put they are High as hell you find these lcds on ebay or you take them from Toshiba satellite T1960cs, T1960, CS100 mostly the older models make sure it is a color screen tft.

so in other words, if one person here could get there hands on one... make a working version of it, it looks really good... lets us know... then we could have a group-buy kinda thing going on 🙂 hehe

I already have my lcd panel, but i was mainly curious if one could get a small actual vga screen... sounds hard to do... damn. 🙁 oh well... the search continues... 🙂

hmm from epson, you couldn't order a sample? 😀 hehe

Nooo,

I think only those SVGA $650 glasses are our only resource.

If someone wants to give a go to the various big-wigs for sample's, please do. My heart can't take the disappointment anymore.

I would just assume get the VR glasses as well. I'm sure the sample would end up being just as expensive, if not more.

However, I have not tried...anyone up for a go?

My time here will expire next week as I go abroad for a broad and work, ha-ha.

I may post from there my projection experiment's as I hope to utilize this in my job. I'll have to check the financial end once I'm established.

I'll keep my eye out for manufacture's in SEAsia.

One thing i was thinking is that the current res (528x220) which is the highest we have found will have much smaller pixels and a much smaller dot pitch than a 640x480 large panel, so actually ( i know im probably wrong) but i cant see how it would make much difference, especially when we are only watching films/tv at low res.

I'm still EXTREMELY desperate 2 c sushi's screenshots though (if he gets that ribbon cable) 🙂

I saw on the first age u compared the pic to the dvd pic of nicole kidman posted by someone else, are u honestly being truthful? that pic was great!

Please Please SushiMan, give us some pix 🙂) put us out of our misery!

Yes, I thought it looked like the Kidman pic

This panel's projection looked pretty clean. Have to wait for a side-by-side, though.

If the cash presents itself I'll get that panel before I leave. But, not sure If I'll have a free moment to pull everything out.

I'm waiting on some financial news later this week. But, maybe before I go! Or, maybe I'll post from Jakarta with Gunawan's help.

ehh hopefully in the near future some vga/svga panels will present themselves... for a good price. 🙂

i was hoping to find one now, and hook it up to a computer... play games and stuff. no biggie... i still have the lcd panel to play with. Hell i only got it yesterday.. 🙂

in searching for the best possible lcd, a while ago I stumbled across the toshiba electronics site. At the time, i dismissed it 'cause it wasn't small enough. (even though it was vga!)

it is a poly-silicon panel, and i think i remember reading somewhere that this type of panel lets more light through and has better response speed, can't quite remember though.(maybe someone here knows more about that?)

anyway, if you don't mind the size (4" or 10cm diagonal) then...

ps.hopefully this time i havent repeated a previous post!!!
