Looks very nice Owen. And good to see the 10's have a home now. Using a boosted alignment?

Did the rising distortion below 40Hz give me away 🙂

Yes... there's about 6dB of boost at 20Hz tapering down to about 1dB at 40Hz. It may or may not be needed depending on the room and listening preferences though.

exa065:

I'll read up on it and see if I can figure it out. I have impulse responses for each driver in SoundEasy, but I don't know how to export them as a wave file...

I'm also trying to wrap my head around the UE3 software from Bodzio. It looks incredibly powerful, but I'll be lucky if I figure it out in time for next year, let alone this one!

Cheers,
Owen

Alternatively we need a VST convolver /crossover plug-in that can work with SoundEasy files. Basically I have 8 channels accessible via the ASIO driver. Any software that can implement the crossovers and stream to ASIO can do the job.

George

Hi Owen,

This is a very impressive frequency response. I am trying to figure out how to feed your driver files in one of the convolver plug-ins available for use with Foobar. Convolvers require impulse response saved as a WAV file with matching number of channels and sampling rate. I haven't done that before. My experience is limited to testing digital crossovers like Allocator and foo_dsp_xover.

I will have with me an exaU2I and e18 DAC. Hopefully we can figure out the connections at the event.

-Best,
George

wont you need to do the required impulse measurements for the convolver at the event in the room? if done somewhere else they are pretty much meaningless arent they? I did wonder how you were going to make it (E18) work with opc's speakers without doing this, i was going to mention it but being an alien i thought i'd leave it. I also didnt want it to be mistaken for stirring as i'm quite keen to hear some subjective comment on the wire amps of both types with sabre and digi XO, as despite a few differences in the dac implementation (discrete es9012 dacs per bass, mid, high driver rather than a 9018) its my near future setup that isnt quite done yet.

and with that i'll go back to eating popcorn in the background til i can read some impressions after the meet; have a great time chaps!!

ps. and yes those in the know know Owen is a closet basshead

I'm pretty sure he is an out of the closet basshead.

I carry a card.....

On sad notes the wonderful large array speakers I'm working on will not get to the show. To many gremlins in the construction. I may bring some pieces to show off.

On a happier note I will bring a couple of interesting things in their stead. Still have some tricks up yee olde sleeve!

The over promiser and unfortunate underachiever!

Are Tony's speakers finished?

Tony - Do you plan on bringing them on Saturday?

Thought I'd take some measurements of the chip amp to make sure all was well. Looking good!

Its ac coupled, and could use a larger input cap, but -0.5 dB is still a respectable 25Hz and -1 dB at 20 Hz.

Most impressively, the channel balance left to right is 0.03 dB 20Hz-20kHz, and the gain into a complex load (one of my DIY 2-way mini monitors) is very close to the response into an 8 ohm load. Except for the ac coupling, response is +/-0.2 dB. Gain is 26.9 dB.

I didn't bother measuring distortion, it'll be standard LM3886, and noise is as low as I cared for (I could drop it a tad more with more careful wire layout but its completely inaudible in my set up).

Nice little piece for a second system or bedroom, for something so cheap and easy to put together.

Mind you, I think it sounds quite a bit different than my Bryston (and I certainly prefer John's brute amp), but you guys can be the judge.

This is going into the boys bedroom, all in all a fun experiment!

Dave

Hi Pierre,

Can you let me know if we're going to be able to leave anything overnight on the Saturday? This could have a big impact on what I bring and when I bring it.

Regards,
Owen

I'm not ruling out leaving things overnight, but want to make sure we are all aware of the context.

Because we rent two daily periods, not a weekend, and the contract being what it is, we are supposed to clean up overnight. If we collect enough $ perhaps we can rent overnight in the future. Also, we rent one room and not the whole centre, so there will be neighbors walking in and out of the centre with their own key. Regardless of how good the neighborhood is, there is always some risk of theft.

Owen - I will be glad to discuss specifics of what you would like to leave overnight offline.

Hi Guys

Back on Jan 6th there was a rough agenda posted. There has been a lot of water under the bridge since.

In a perfect world, I could park bones my at the meeting for two half days. (contributing where I could). Unfortunately this can't happen. (I am limiting myself to one divorce per decade) I would like to focus on the issues closest to my heart. Will someone be posting a proposed agenda to help me to plan my weekend. I unfortunately have a substantial cross town trip or I could pop in and out.
Thanks
Ken

1 to 3 pm - unplugged music (classical, jazz)
3 pm - Demo by Mark on speaker measurement using ARTA
4 to 6 pm - free style music
6 to 7 pm - cool off, pack up.

Sunday 5 February

Featured:
Owen's loudspeakers
George's high-res playback
Analog front-end (Wolfgang?)
