The Butcher's Table

For those who could not make it to the first DiyTorMeet:

Agenda: none really, idea was just to meet and know the faces of the individuals which no one can imagine what the person look like behind their handles on DiyAudio.com.

10:20 Byron arrived, caught me by surprise that someone actually turn up. He armed with a box of Tim Hortons donuts with his right hand and a phono stage (he built) with his left hand with a bag of CDs. With Byron's help and ten minutes later we accomplished the very first set up for the day The Coffee Maker! Luckily no one asked for cappuccino or expresso otherwise I have to dig out the manual and started reading.

We did not stare at each other in silence and we did not watch the coffee dripping down while it was being made. We actually talked. We took our coffee and went to the basement and started listening to his CDs right away.

An hour or so later, just as Byron stepping out of the front door for some fresh air Graham arrived. Graham brought along a box of CDs and a bag of brownies. We continued to listen to more CDs and exchanged our DIY backgrounds. Mike arrived may be half an hour after Graham. We just talked and listen to more CDs. With Mike’s presence the meeting went up a step or so. The meeting just went on like any other normal party.

Did not know exactly when and Byron was the first to leave. I could not remember whether I have escorted him out or not. Mike Graham and I continued. As we were just about moving the Dipole Subs, Dave called from his mobile phone and announced that he was approaching my house. I hanged up and went back to disconnect the subs from the GCs and I forgot about to let Dave in. A few minutes later I suddenly remembered Dave was at the door. As I panicked I asked Graham to welcome Dave for me. From then onwards Dave detailed the meet in his post so I am not going to repeat here. Unfortunately Dave’s ride came and he had to leave us. Graham, Mike and I continued a bit more and I showed them around my workshop. Sharing experience with power tools and dos and don’ts etc… I think it was 16:30 we finally finished. An hour overran was not too bad and I did not get into trouble for that.

Byron--thanks for the donuts and your sun glasses, nice soldering job on your phono stage. I will build one soon.
Graham--thank you for the brownies and I am sorry that I could not offer you tea.
Mike--you did not drink nor eat anything I am offended! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Dave-- sorry to have you with us for such a short time. We should get together soon especially you live so close to me. You can show me the speaker measurement tools so that I can set up my speakers properly.

All in all it was an excellent first meet. I am very pleased to have met you guys.

Chris it will be great if you can have us again. I have so much stuff to transport that a Pickering location would be very good.
I just received on loan a Manger driver and want to bring it to run with an IMF TL clone that my friend built. And we must listen to that RCA driver!
Morbo, if you attend we may be able to generate a cal file for your Apex mic, as I have borrowed a calibrated LMS mic for reference. I'm also going to try to pull a couple of new ones from the warehouse and check them all, perhaps an average cal file will be good enough for most people to use.

Any dates in mind? March 19, April 2 or 9 ?

I love my wife!

Folks,

Just got the green light for the March 19th; same time 10:30 to 15:30 Location: same place, unless somebody offer a different location.

But this time we should do it in a more managed fashion. We need confimation of :

Number of people: again only members please.
Items to show and tell, review..

so that we can allot time for them and follow the schedule so that everything got its share. Anyone has done this sort of thing before please help here...

Comments please,

The Butcher😀

I will come, and will telephone you Chris to confirm what to bring.

I would like to bring the frankenstack which is mono 3-way active and would benefit from more powerful amps than I have. It can be the object of a kx computer crossover demonstration.

I also have that Manger but have to check to see if someone blew it up before I received it. If it is still working I can run it with the IMF TL clone so that we can hear a very wide band 2-way system.

And the cookie-jar of course! We'll need it for mic calibration anyway.

Schedual

We have roughly just about 5 hours. I would like set a time table to follow and make this meet more productive. So I would appreciate that confirmation of items to be shown and an estimate of time for each item requires, like a event program, for example

10:30 -- amps ??
11:30 -- pre-amps??
12:30 -- lunch, chit chat, pictures
13:30 -- speaker measurement tool???
14:30 -- speakers??
15:30 -- I will show you my wife's DIY item " The Door"

comments please..
