Pictures of the MkII setup!!!
Finally! I have got a few pictures of the MkII setup on my website at www.diylabs.org (go to the projector section and it a link will be in the top/middle of the page). Just in case you don't want to click over to that site, here is one of my pictures with the lights on in the room ...
This picture is with a bright ceiling light on and also my windows are wide open during about 1pm on a very sunny day. The projector is my MkII with a 250 watt kit using a DIY reflector and the 05000 fresnel lens that I received as a sample from the manufacturer. It looks great, espcially considering that the lights are all on and especially considering that I haven't tweaked this projector at all! I can't wait to try this with a good condenser lens. I got one from www.surplusshed.com, but it doesn't have the right optical properties to boost the light at all. I'll be ordering some from my manufacturer soon!

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Being that its 1pm w/ lights on...loooks good!! Just wondering though. Whats the measurements of that image on the wall?
built my mk2
well i spent all day putting together my projector yesterday, but unfortuantly all i get is a projection of bright light, im wondering if the lcd tray should have went all the way across the box , i got lot of light coming up from the bottom , i get good light thru lcd and good picture on mirror but no projection, i got a convex lens so im gonna order a triplett today from alan and the shorter fresnel but i would have thought would have got some sort of image, any thoughts on this
thanks

Alan, I do not want to be a skeptic here, but all that image is, is the LCD with most of the pixels off allowing the most possible light through. I think the real test is watching a dark movie. The image looks crisp and clear, but I’m not seeing much of a difference between that and my old AI-1000 ohp in a lit room. I am not saying it is dim, but I really cannot tell if it will do well playing a movie rather than a small splash screen image.
Good work so far!

Verbose, a skeptic, ey? 😉 I was trying to get a video uploaded to my website so that you could see a short clip from the Xbox game "James Bond 007 - Night Fire", which is a pretty dark game, but I couldn't get my camera to do a very goed job focusing (it's a still camera with a 20 second video function that doesn't work very well).
Also, the projector isn't even finished yet. I've just been holding up the triplet in the right spot instead of actually having it installed as it should be. I also need to put a 2" gap between the LCD and fresnel lens to optimize output for my 10.4" panel.
The thing that I was most impressed by was that my reflector seems to make a difference in light output. If you go to www.diylabs.org you can see a couple of images side-by-side that are of my projector with and without a reflector installed. My reflector can't even be that efficient since it is an imperfectly shaped soup ladle that I cut to fit around the bulb. I'll try to get more usable images and maybe even a short video clip on the website.

Reflectors are supposed to do that 🙂

I know, I know 😉 , but my reflector is just a soup ladle with some holes cut in it, so I wasn't sure how much of a difference it would actually make.
well after much tinkering i got my mk2 to project , when building this though alan list a 14x14 lcd tray but this allows way to much light so fixed with cardboard and that seem to fix the wash out but the light is not bright enough on mine for day veiwing so far im using and old strobe light reflector but thinking maybe need more of a round reflector. so hopin with more tweaking it will get brighter, the light is definatly bright.
I think we should clearify "daytime viewing" for alot of people on the boards.
- If your hoping you'll be able to see the screen with sunlight hitting it... your out of luck.
- If your hoping to see the screen with a big indoor ceiling light on... your out of luck.
Daytime viewing is possible as long as light isnt hitting the screen directly. Spot lighting would be the best example of this. If your aiming all of the excess light in the room away from the screen... you'll be able to watch it. If not... you wont.
It's that simple.

how is the triplet better?
Hey, I've been thinking about getting that triplet lens of your because the singlet that came with my AI-1000 isn't very good. One thing that I dislike the most is:
1) corners not in focus when center is and visa-versa
2) mostly in corners: spheric aberation. ie rainbow effect mostly on the high contrast areas (white abd black close together)
are these common problems with a lens like mine that will be fixed if I get the triplet?
I was really hoping to get a zoom lens so that the position of the projector was not determined by the desired image size as some of you guys know ;-) how long do you think it'll be before you have something for sale on the site? If it isn't really long, I'll just wait so I can go with that. No need to buy the triplet if I want to get the zoom a month or two after.
Thanx

These lens triplets are teriffic for video projection. They have special optics and coatings to correct for color aberation and other artifacts. I can detect no difference in image quality between the very center or the far corners - the image is 100% sharp and in focus! Even if you only upgarded to a double-lens assembly, you'd definitely notice a big improvement over the singlet/meniscus lens. But the triplet is by far the best lens for these projectors.
I just ordered a couple of concave lenses from www.surplusshed.com to try to build a reducing lens. I've already built a zoom lens with a couple of convex lenses, but I don't know of anyone right now who wants a larger image - everyone wants long throw. I'll do my best to keep you all informed about my progress on the new reducing lens.

triplett lens
If you check my earlier post about DIYLABS you will see I mention using a single lens that lens was the singlet from the same model Apollo. Get the triplett it will greatly increase your focus and you will see a general sharpening of color. You can't go wrong with that one.....and no I don't know Alan except for discussion in the forum so I am not advertising for him!!!

AT LAST
AFTER much tinkering i finally got my mk 2 running picture is not bad still some minor fine tuning yet to do but watched lord of the rings last night and i absoulutly luvs it, ps alan order a tripett lens today so hope you can ruch it out for me .
also i need a vga chord for my sharp qa 1500 anyone know where to get one
thx
and thxs for your design alan

hey edrnrman congrats on your success 🙂
do you have pix of the MKII? i really wanna buy one but the pix on his site are a bit lacking 🙁 i want to see how it looks with lens mounted and the insides and so on...
if nay one else has an MKII kit and would like to post pix i would REALLY appreciate it 🙂
thx
