I can send you some drawings of a superb Leslie-speaker I made, so you can have some fun with Doppler-effect and give me some feedback ?

Leslie-speaker!! You're crazy 😀 You should have very trained ears for having such projects 😉

I'm interested in horns, but I wont allow myself to waste my time there. If possible I want to stop the hobby 😀

Thanks to all of you :sax: I never thought that this thread would get so long and have so many interesting people in it.

wesayso asked me for the reason for this thread? And the answer is easy to give, I want to be surprised when I listen to music, way to many speakers sound good, the ones I have, a pair of DANA 980 got voices right, bass is deep and the overall tonal balance is just right, so why not stop there? I am missing the nerve, I want to jump when somebody kick a drum or a jet fly by on a Pink Floyd recording, that's why.

What I here is that sensitivity is very importen I want to thank system7 for what he wrote in post #254. I really enjoyed Troels Gravesen article on high High Efficiency Speakers

Membran area, large, small medium (-: large less movements but directivity suffers, this must be a compromise, like everything else.

I think I like the design of Troels Gravesen OBL11 and would like to ask all of you what you think of the midrange / tweeter combo JA8008-HMQ / SEAS

Keep it coming

Waveguides have got easier to do with CAD, so theres no excuses for not trying. A good one of those, can make it fall into place.
A good waveguide can sound surprisingly ordinary with a random crossover, and a good crossover is very hard to do. I expect no more than mixed reactions toward waveguides.

I also think, that the tweeter dome, should be roughly the same shape and size, as the woofer dust cap.
An eye for details. Since standard usage of woofers crosses them far below this point though... but dustcaps can be good ones or not.

With non-moving phase plug, the HF is produced solely by tweeter.

The reason, I think the tweeterdome (if it is a dome), is that if the woofer dustcap moves with the woofers cone, they might radiate similarly.
Um, no and no.

Highs are produced by the entire cone, except where the cone bends in the process. The large radiating area is the cause of lobing (like an array).

A curved dome doesn't produce a curved wavefront as a direct result of its shape. The cone moves straight in and out.

OBL-11??? Are you sure you have the room for such speaker? You have to put it far away from walls. I believe it will not give you what you want in term of the "dynamics surprise".

I forgot if you have mentioned your room size. We all have to start from room size.

It's vintage. Foam surround. Small magnet diameter
My experience with this kind of woofer (if I have it right) is a high Qm, which many agree is a good thing. This could be what you meant when you talked about a light cone. I was sceptical earlier about what you were saying because I wasn't sure just what you were saying and a high Qm can be had with any cone because it is dependent on suspension compliance.

Yes.

This could be what you meant when you talked about a light cone.

No. The light and rigid cone was for the midrange/midbass duty.

I was sceptical earlier about what you were saying because I wasn't sure just what you were saying and a high Qm can be had with any cone because it is dependent on suspension compliance.

I have never mentioned Qm before. Only Qts. But it is irrelevant of the light cone discussion, as you know the reason why.

Troels think it's the best since sliced bread. And my path is already set, got four AE LO15 coming my way soon.

Really. He talked about how 15" driver not-in-a-box sounded so different (positively) than ordinary small boxed speakers. Of course.

My point is, does Troel use such speaker in his living room?

It is not convenient, and especially has low WAF. Even if my wife wants it, I don't want. It's so ugly 😀

But you can try and decide for yourself if the trade-off is okay for you 🙂

You said "um, no and no", both to my comment and Snup's. I believe Snup and I talked about radial circular diameter, nothing to do with shape.
I could have got it wrong, unless both of us did.
But it is irrelevant of the light cone discussion, as you know the reason why.
I probably don't know as much as you think I do, but thanks for the vote of confidence 😉
