looking forward to hearing this dac! I might try it with iancanada fifopi ma reclocker.. does the board need or come with standoffs? sorry I've been out of the rpi hobby a while, this might be a dumb question
I can vouch for this R2r board! It’s great. I had the other board mentioned above and couldn’t warm up to it. The inverting output character caused a real mixed up soundstage.
Used with raspberry pi 3+ Volumio, and the battery supply from iancanada. Makes for a fantastic setup that doesn’t break the bank.

Received yesterday - thanks!
I plan to upgrade the power supply, i2s signals and clocks with (likely) some Ian Canada parts, but even connecting it directly to a Pi3 to test with a new Volumio install, it sounds pretty good with that R2R smoothness. I expect the clarity and soundstage to sharpen up when I upgrade the PS and clocks.

@ uncola,
Thanks for the setup photo. Super capacitors needs quite a long charging time . Once charged, the internal impedance can be very low.

this dac sounds amazing. I've ordered the iancanada FifoPiMa V1.5 reclocker to invest more in the r2r HAT dac. Ew, you should start a dac company!
uncola,
Thanks! designing and building DAC is just my hobby , and I enjoy matching resistors / building it very much .

Just added the shieldpi v3 which has a 3.3v low noise output and the fifopi ma v1.5 reclocker (it takes the 3.3v input)to my stack, sounding even better. to me this is a true giant killer setup that is good enough to be anyone's endgame dac
regarding mood settings I had to change the i2s driver to hifiberry dac+ pro instead of generic i2s device to get audio with the fifopi ma reclocker
