bass weight is very good, provided you don't listen loud, the 3" only has very limited dynamics of course. soundstage is what you can expect from a full-range 🙂

Thanks for your reply, Henkjan! I will have to see if the drivers I am interested in can fit the requirements of your design before trying to get a local woodworker to help build it. Of the bookshelf sized 3" FR TL designs I look into, yours seem to be using the least number of uhm 'parts' and most likely to cost the least to build, perhaps. Most likely the 'tallboy' variation you posted, very grateful for your sharing 🙂

Right now I'm playing them in my workshop on a 36" by 36" open baffle. It's set up with interchangeable baffles for comparison. I've had most of the usual suspects "on tap" and the FF85wk's have a nice way of conveying music! Used within their limitations they are quite respectable.

Hi SufferingArtist,

I tried 2x Aurasound NS3 in a TML and was a little bit disappointed.
If you want them to play in a nice volume they run very fast into the maximum extension.
The Frugal version from Planet10 or a simple BR is much better for these little speakers.

BR: 6l 60Hz is a very well enclosure for them, a simple impedance linearization and you have a nice performer for the kitchen or for background-music 😉

Maybe i'm wrong with my following statement, but in my opinion all the speakers you can buy are optimized for sealed or BR. If you want to use a TML for a tiny speaker i would suggest to try a tapered version, so they don't run quickly into xmax. You can simulate it very good with Leonard Audio Transmission Line program. It's for free and the results are not far away from the reality...

I have very good results for my TV with 2x Hiwave BMR65-8 in a tapered TML, but to be honest i use them only for TV not for Hifi 😉

Personally i like the Fountek FE85 and want to try it in a TML version in the following weeks/months...

Many thanks, S4m.

Right now I am exploring my options, emailing with local driver agents whose first language is English, having them not understand anything I write, may decide to buy direct from the Chinese literate Tang Band boys in Taiwan or the kind Fostex Japan dudes, should have less communication problems, seeing as English is not their first language, and their respective societies do not place such a high premium on mediocrity, I mean "meritocracy" (when it comes to hiring persons for communications purposes, it seems a boon to Singapore to only hire language-challenged but well-qualified individuals linked to Board members by blood or eros)

But I digress....
