Daphile - Audiophile Music Server & Player OS

Yes that is correct. If it is still not recognised then what Daphile considers is a 'target' may not include eMMc.
Make sure you are using the latest Daphile image and if still not working then contact Kimmo through the Daphile page and also check the Gentoo forums re eMMc as Daphile is Gentoo based.

Edit..I suspect that Daphile kernel is not compiled with eMMc support. Just install Daphile to a USB stick and use that. Daphile runs from ram so there shouldn't be any difference in performance and maybe a little slower booting if using USB 2.0 but a USB 3 should be fine.

Gentoo forum is too complex for my abilities and contacting Kimmo seems a bit overkill just for my problem but thanks again for your help.

I have just dug out my only SOC with eMMc and booted Daphile then started the install procedure to check if eMMc was found.
Yes it was... using the current beta version of Daphile..see screenshot and note too the mmcblk0 device found for installation.

Your recommendation to us beta firmware jogs my memory a bit. I thought I had installed Daphile on the 3040 in the past and I did use beta firmware as advised by a forum member but the problem is I have no record and a search does not find it. I tried the latest beta firmware and also an older one. Still no luck finding the eMMc.
Any ideas.

Daphile beta are here
http://www.daphile.com/firmware/beta/

If you've installed it previously on this machine then I can only surmise that the drive has not been cleared.
Download the live gparted (most recent version) and clear the drive...try the option to install a new device partition table and use gpt and see if that works.

Thanks DRONE7
Nothing I did could get Daphile to recognise the eMMc. I did send message to Kimmo.
In the meantime I have Acronis True Image on usb and managed to clone a working installation of Daphile to the eMMc. This is perfect and does all I want.
So thanks again for your help.

Lovely piece of kit.
I may be missing something:
I want to WiFi stream the same stream that's being played on my Daphile server hardware output, to my kitchen Android device. I can't seem to find info on that. I've tried to connect to the server remotely using VLC, Clementine, etc. Am I missing and endpoint setting?

Hello Sir
I got a 3040 off fleabay i downloaded latest beta firmware and copied too usb stick under installation in firmware daphile showed the emmc but it was greyed out.
Looking around the Dell bios down the bottom of the menu was an option too erase emmc on next reboot so i did hook up monitor so you can watch the progress it too about 10 mins then reboot too an empty emmc.
I was then able too select it under install from running daphile on USB.!
Fantastic distro this makes the 3040 a great option thanks Team and all on this thread !

I've been using daphile for 5 years plus and enjoyed the trip. Unfortunately no one is taking notice of the missing centre channel imaging which once heard ruins the experience. Please just try it and see for yourself. Especially noticeable when playing mono recordings.

I've now moved to Roon (Roon Rock) which seems to have improved markedly in the last two years although it's not cheap.

Thanks for all the fish.

No one is taking notice because it's not a daphile issue. I suspect you have/had one of your speakers wired out of polarity. 🙂

Dave.

I know what I am doing. Why would roon sound so different when running thru the same config? Likewise with a CD. We also tried daphile from 2021. And also two other systems with the same result. There is definitely something amiss with daphile. I have not tried the latest beta. Once noticed there is no going back.

Well, theoretically it's possible that the new daphile has one channel inverted. AFAIR the application communicating with alsa is a closed-source binary, there could have been some changes. The easiest check - did you try flipping wires of one speaker with the new Daphile?

So, it should be easy to prove/disprove your theory.
Use a mono test track and analyze the line output of your device using the L/R differential mode of a suitable test program like ARTA. ARTA calls this the "FR2" mode.
If you see a perfectly flat amplitude and phase trace, then it's time to look elsewhere in your system for the issue.

Dave.

So, I have been a daphile user for around 7 yrs. My latest iteration for the last couple of years has been to use my PC as server and a mini PC over ethernet (Fitlet 2) as player. I use USB from Fitlet2 out to DAC (Lampizator Big 7).

I have been very happy with the sound as well as functionality. I use the web interface on my iPad.

I have tried the DSD up-sampling but have had issues with skips/interruptions so never really adopted the DSD upsampling train -even though my DAC supposedly does it well. I am/was very happy with PCM native.

Recently with the 22 update RT version, I noticed that my PLAYER no longer will “play from memory”. The icon is there and everything else works fine, but when I tap on it nothing happens.. If I go to my server PC, I can play from memory fine (I assume this means it is playing from the memory on the server PC).

So in the process of fault-finding, I have revisited here after quite some time, and learned I can use the IP address/cgi-bin/Devel path to access my installations and change firmware on-the-fly. Awesome, I feel embarrassed that I didn’t know this ‘til now, but I guess I was just enjoying the music 🙂.

I am very happy to report that the October 22 beta RT version solved my problem with play-from-memory on my player. Additionally, I am currently listening to DSD256 upsampling for the first time without hiccups as a bonus!

And lastly, the ability to change the audio settings AND save without reboot on this 22 firmware is very much appreciated.

Thanks Kipeta and all here.

Charles

Hey everyone!
Long time Daphile user here. I installed the 19.something RT image sometime in 2019 (or 18) I guess and it's been rock solid ever since. Infact I've build my whole system around it, to what it is today.

Anyway, I have regularly updated my installation whenever a firmware update dropped and there have never been any issues.

Today morning I saw another update avaialble and I simply clicked downlaod and update. Update installed fine and the pc reboot; only this time to the dreaded "waiting for network connection" screen. It's no longer taking up an IP on my wifi network (picks up LAN just fine btw). I have DHCP enabled on my router. Tried to configure static IP but no luck.

On one attempt I tried "reset all settings to latest firmware defaults" after which it rebooted and took up an ip on wifi only to show me a message in the settings (firmware section) that the latest firmware crashed and the system was loaded on the old firmware. I stupidly clicked on "reboot with new firmware" and now no matter what I'm doing, it's no longer hooking up to my router.

I would've been okay with LAN as well but my router is on another floor and fetting a lan cable to my room ain't possible.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks and happy holidays to all!
